My eyes teared up reading this sad story.
The detailed story of the siege of leninggrad can be read in Harrison Salisbury's "900 days"

A truly amazing story Mr Monk. Thank you for bringing this article to our attention.
I would rather die than sell my heart and soul to an online forum Anti Christ like you Monk
Re: Diary of a Russian "Anne Frank"
I have read the "900 days" and cripes but things got pretty basic. Ice forming inside the walls of the writers union office. Big lump of ice and snow formed in front of the door to the writers union that they had to climb over. One of the writers hadn't been seen for ages: he had died in front of the entrance of the Writers union and snow had accumulated on him and turned into ice.
Pretty basic.
Leningrad only survived because in winter Lake Lagod froze solid and trucks could drive over it. If the Germans had twigged to what was happening Leningrad would have fallen.
