Re: Bluescope steel and qantas
In Howard's day there was a boat that sank and 300 men, women and children drowned. I would like to avoid such a tragedy happening again. That wasn't the only boat that sank either.
I feel that now the only way we can discourage AS from stepping in such a boat and putting their lives in danger would be to take say 40,000 processed and found to be genuine asylum seekers from Malaysia, transport them safely to Australia and settle them into the community where there is work and accommodation for them.
All this crap about nazism is just Jackal doing some nice drama queening. You want to talk to a nazi talk to Mellie on the board you are a member of where racism rules and intellectual thought is verboten!

Oh how the tune has changed, now that it's a Labor Pacific SolutionJovial Monk wrote:No "Pacific (non) Solution" would be great!

In some countries they simply walk off the boat and into the crowds in peak hour, and then hidden for ever,
at least here in Oz we have a way of tackling the problem, at the moment this is what we have,
until something better is thought of we are stuck with it.

Re: Bluescope steel and qantas
There is a big difference between Howard's Pacific (non)Solution where people were kept locked up in Nauru for years but eventually came to Australia anyway and the Malaysian deal where refugees in Malaysia would be allowed to work and a big boost in the number allowed. There were signs that a true Regional deal could be arranged. that is past history now.
So now about all we can do is reduce the logjam of asylum seekers in Indo & Malaysia by taking in say 40,000 in one go and resettling them immediately in the community after health checks (which could be done in transit to Australia.) This should reduce hugely the number seeking to make the risky trip by boat.
Howard just made it appear the boats weren't coming anymore, didn't solve anything and cost us $1.2Bn to not do it.
Since March your posts have had no content boxy, isn't it about time you got over it?

Piss off, Lisa, you hypocritical slag. Go back to trashing the quotes thread, discussing who to ban next, and handing out i-booze, to keep your post count up.
So why don't they just send the planes in, and take the 40k asylum seekers then? That would stop the boats too, if they knew they could get flown in. Why import people back to a country that has been shown to have some pretty dodgy practices, worse than anything you've ever accused the Howard govt of.Jovial Monk wrote:There is a big difference between Howard's Pacific (non)Solution where people were kept locked up in Nauru for years but eventually came to Australia anyway and the Malaysian deal where refugees in Malaysia would be allowed to work and a big boost in the number allowed. Howard wanted to turn Australia into a communist country, those who thought that way and Russian people living here liked that idea,
then if that had happened, all you stuck up rich snobs would have been complaining at the loss of all you great incomes and tax evasion techniques but still would have enjoyed the Libs in power.
How sickening.
