Bluescope steel and qantas
http://www.abc.net.au/news/2011-08-22/b ... go/2849388
"Australia's biggest steelmaker, BlueScope Steel, is reportedly axing at least 1,000 jobs as it prepares to announce a big loss when its annual financial results are released in Sydney this morning."
The other day Qantas announced the loss of 1000 jobs.
To me it seems Bluescope is merely making an opportunistic and greedy decision. Steel is selling well at high prices to China and the market is likely to expand. It is a different situation than Qantas finds itself in - the cost in airline fuel, changing travel patterns. costs of increased security, challenge of increased competition, worries about keeping maintenance schedules for planes up to date and safety consequences - yeah, what qantas is doing makes sense- but Bluescope? !!!!
What do you think?

Re: Bluescope steel and qantas
You will find that Australia is actually importing steel from China at a price cheaper than Bluscope will or can sell it for. The $A being at the levels it is at will and has made it very difficult for Australian manufactureres to compete. Good if you are going on holiday though!!
Re: Bluescope steel and qantas
Yup, all those starving billionaires protesting about the MRSPT don’t give a fuck about Australia or Australian workers and are importing steel. Nice bunch of fat unmentionables!

I don't even know what this has to do with the topic.Jovial Monk wrote:Yup, all those starving billionaires protesting about the MRSPT don’t give a fuck about Australia or Australian workers and are importing steel. Nice bunch of fat unmentionables!

Then I suggest you do some reading. It is very relevant.

So even you can't explain how your comments relate to the thread. Shame that.Jovial Monk wrote:Then I suggest you do some reading. It is very relevant.

It seems he wants private enterprise to buy high and sell low

"But you will run your fluffy bunny mouth at me. And I will take it, to play poker."

So it would seem. I suspect that Monk invests in his piggy bank too.boxy wrote:It seems he wants private enterprise to buy high and sell low

He actually doesnt know what he wants. He just reads something on the interweb, copies it here and it becomes his opinion. He is incapable of rational thought. He is a bit like an idiot servaunt(sp) biut just the idiot bit!
Re: Bluescope steel and qantas
Gee, just the tiniest bit of reading in the MSM will give you the answer. I mean WEC is such a hot shot investor and knows all about Bloomberg and all that. So you can find out for yourselves.
