I've got a roast lamb and vege dinner lined up for the family for tomorrow night. Again .. something easy, tasty, warm and yummy for a typical cold winter's night.

I hate, detest and despise with an unimaginable and unbridled passion, carving lamb. Greasy mess. I love eating roast lamb. There is a dilemma.

There is nothing more tasty than a slow roasted, well marinaded Greek style lamb roast.Aussie wrote:I hate, detest and despise with an unimaginable and unbridled passion, carving lamb. Greasy mess. I love eating roast lamb. There is a dilemma.
The lamb gently falls off the bone because it's so tender. I never bring the lamb roast to the dinner table to be cut. I gently cut the meat up as it's sitting on a large platter on my kitchen preparation bench and I serve the lamb roast already cut up into large chunks on the platter. There's no mess .. and no left overs either.

Poor little lambs. How can people not think of them gambolling innocently in the fields when they eat lamb?
Re: Food, glorious Food
I think that if it wasn’t for people eating mutton there would be no lambs gambolling anywhere.

We had dinner over at Mum's this evening. I was just too tired after a very busy end of month/end of financial yr accounting period at the office.
Thank heavens for Mums. Tis such a pity I live so far away from her these days.

I want to make an apple pie this weekend, making the pastry myself.
Anyone have a recipe? Never made apple pie before!

Well, i've done it several times. Must be a recipe on the net- i haven't got one at the moment. You stew lightly the apples with cinnamon and mixed spice and maybe a couple fo cloves. You make a wholemeal shortcrust pastry. You bake the pie and serve it with whipped cream.
You can also make a delicious apple pie/cake which i believe is dutch which has a kind of shortbread base and middle and top and sliced apples sprinkled with spices and sugar in a couple of thick layers. Recipes for dutch apple cake on th enet seem to have quite a wide range of cake sin mind- btu the one i describe is very tasty

Yup, have found a recipe for apple pie and one for shortcrust pastry on the net. Mrs Beeton also has several. Will spice the applemass more than you describe tho, lover the spice I do!
Mum makes that appeltaart, ele, for when we have a big extended-family gathering.
