An RAAF border protection spotter plane spied the boatload migrants north west of the island on Saturday.
A spokesman for Home Affairs minister Brendan O'Connor said: "ACV Pirie, operating under the control of Border Protection Command, intercepted a suspected irregular entry vessel north, north west of Christmas Island today.
"Initial indications suggest there are 57 passengers and two crew on board.
"The vessel was initially detected by a RAAF P3 maritime patrol aircraft, operating under the control of Border Protection Command.
"The passengers will be transferred to Christmas Island pending removal to another country."

My problem isn't with actually using the word illegals, and more about how I feel about what sprintcyclist means when he says illegals.
