Being vegetarian I think killing animals is wrong anyway, but surely if people are going to do it at least they could do it as painlessly as possible.
Not sure what i think about using our money to train Indonesians to be able to to be kinder in abbatoirs where they are not. I think it is for their government to pull them into line or close them down. Is there a standard they are meant to adhere to? Your article (or onesomewheer in this thread anyway suggests Islam itself does not support the painful killing of animals)
If not, there should be. Certainly Australia could impose its own, and inspect randomly to make sure receiving abbatoirs comply, (if Indonesia agreed) but why should we - it would be a lot cheaper for Australia to manufacture halal meat onshore.
