Thoughts about a new Constitution

Post by Jovial Monk » Tue May 10, 2011 6:32 pm

A constitution is necessary because this is a community run board, unlike my board or DeepshiT’s excuse of a board this one is “owned” by the members. What should a constitution hold?

Procedures for electing and dismissing an Admin. If the Admin is too powerful the board will eventually be destroyed. Think on that.

Rules for debate, for posting. A way of ensuring debate stays civilised while encouraging robust debate.

Codifying the role and duties of Admins and mods

Rules for proposing and voting on amendments to the constitution.
1. Anyone can propose an amendment
2. A period of discussion of the amendment. During this amendments and alternative amendments can be moved
3. Voting on the amendments/alternatives to the proposed amendment
4. Voting on the final amendment after this discussion and voting
5. election of returning officer for Elections and Petitions

We also need to grasp the nettle and make some rules re the franchise. Is a newby eligible to vote? When does a newby graduate to member?

Have you taken up Freedivers, Boxy and AIA way of thinking, christ we have just come thru a period where every newbie was disenfranchised and now you want to go backwards.
Will the Board survive under this Admin? Yes

Only people who have been here for a while and made some contribution should be able to vote.

How long, how to measure the “contribution” are subjects to think upon.

I look forward to reading freediver's opinion on that in the blazing white hot glaring light of the 'Kiwi Dave' spotlight.

Your attempted amendment makes you at least as tainted as FD.
