So now the Gillard Govt. is trading in humans. What a despicable act.

No....that sort of easy poo poo ignores the reality. We trade 400 (is it?) for the genuine refugees Malaysia have in their hands. I am happy for them to come here....even live right beside me.

Here's the thing Aussie... I have no problem accepting 'genuine' refugees period, no trade offs required. I have every problem in trading human beings which is what Gillard has proposed.

Much better to accept them without trading for them.

Curiously, your logic sees no problem in allowing other asylum seekers to rot in Malaysia.

i think that Gillard has proposed this measure to dampen people smuggling. I do not think this can be called trading human beings in the sense that slave runner or people smuggler does. Literally it is swapping 800 refugees who have not had their status processed yet for 4000 who have had their status processed. And it is designed to stop people smugglers and the right's hated "queue jumpers" from playing the system.

I don't like that desperate people on boats who are looking for asylum here will be turned away as I want Australia to be kind and loving and helpful, but I do think that if there is a system for this to happen within then it is probably better to discourage peopel from taking advantage of and playing the system, and others from making money from doing so..

This is a tough decision - a stuck between a rock and a hard place decision, largely brought on by the attitude of the Australian public in general and the beat=ups by the right regarding boat arrivals.

Swan explains the idea - beginning to think this guy is really good value for the ALP.

Still looks like people trading.

Add to that the fact that the Gillard govt will send these 800 asylum seekers to a country that is not signed on to the UN conventions which aim to ensure refugee rights are protected.
