They just don't seem able to get this thing under control. I remember at Chernobyl, they initially sent in robots to try and clean up but the radiation was so intense that it fried the electronics in them and they quickly stopped working.

How many times must history repeat itself wrt to nuclear disasters before we all say ENOUGH/NO MORE?

Those old reactors have to be replaced. We cannot do without nuclear.

I'm sure we can do without all this environmental trauma we're causing this planet.

And I certainly fail to see how any cost - benefit analysis weighs in favour of the latter given the risks and the magnitude of the disasters which have taken place thus far.

I sometimes wonder whether we have a global conscience and if it does exist .. whether it convicts us at all esp when we see what we've done to the air, the water, the plants, the animals and even our own children who WILL pay bitterly for the mistakes/accidents ie negligent acts of our generation.

Not sure about a role for nuclear energy .. but there is definitely a role for global common sense energy here.

Yeah. Those reactors were very old fashioned yet despite a force 9 earthquake, tsunami and aftershocks no one has died from radioactivity yet.

Now think about Gen 3/4 in a stable geological environment—somewhere around Pt Augusta would be good.
