Listen, chum, do NOT put words in my mouth!

Over 10 years I am sure inflation will see the cost creep up but that should have been allowed for. Video over IP involves a lot more than TV over IP, then the cloud becoming ubiquitous is another revenue stream plus the indirect savings to the health and education budgets, the decentralisation savings. Then there will be the killer ap.

Telstra has gone pretty much wherever the NBN will go—the risk of a blowout is not that great and offset by the rapidly increasing revenues.

And fuck wireless, I HAVE to use it here at home and it fucking sucks!

I used wireless on a trip around Australia and in most places, it pretty much sucked dick. Worked ok on some days, next day in exactly the same place - I mean exactly the same spot - it was slow and unreliable.

Had a long conversation with a technician who was intalling internet cabling at the school. His company contracted to both government and private sector and installed the lot - wireless, copper wire, optic fibre etc. His professional opinion - an optic fibre NBN is simply the logical next step in communications, just as telephone over copper wire replaced outdated telegraph.

Those of you who are fundamentally opposed to the NBN won't put any stock in the opinion of professional technicians anyway so it doesn't matter I guess.

It's not about the tech moron. It's about the cost and as you can see from your retarded friend, he doesn't care how much it costs.

With govts reputation for waste and the tender now failed, it looks like another huge waste.

The govt can't do anything right. This is just another example to add to the steaming pile of shit that encompasses this govt

I have no issue witrh NBn being the right technical solution. I have a problem with the business model and costs vs benefits.

If it does not deliver to budget... and there is a blow out... it will go all badly wrong. Including failing to deliver the benefits technical and economic.

Project that get starved of funds fail to deliver their benefits and you end up with an even poorer solution than a more conservative approach rather than big bang.

Just as the push for government to provide a national telephone network was a pointless waste that no one would ever use. What was wrong with people going to the local post office if they wanted to make a phone call? The idea that every house in Australia would have a telephone connected was preposterous and a massive waste of money that would invariably fail.

Oh, wait..............

I am not saying there are no risks, but the NBN is basically following the path blazed by Telstra.

Even those who are slated to get wireless might get something like 50mbps download and upload with the CSIRO system using old TV broadcast antenna—in the country wireless makes sense. Not only that, certain communities slated to get wireless may be able to pay to bring fibre to their community. By contrast, SN’s presently “great” wireless connection will slowly degrade as more and more users are added to his tower.
