Savings

Post by Rainbow Moonlight » Thu Apr 07, 2011 10:01 pm

Heard the other day Australian saving is up to 15% of their income for the first time in years, but debt, accessing super and house foreclosures are also up. I think people might be saving but they are probably just saving to pay bills. :)

We have had the debt binge, now is deleveraging. Employment is increasing, retail should eventually pick up—that last rate hike on Melbourne Cup Day wasn’t needed but there won’t be any more for a while. But the housing bubble may decide to pop rather than slowly deflate.

Yeah- maybe people are saving to try to pay off debt. :) Or perhaps just to afford food.

I have been looking around at various power companies, am thinking of changing... but we are restricted here, so....

I think we are all on the hunt to save a buck where we can.. i'm buying more things in bulk these days... wash powder, liquid soap...cleaning products, always on the hunt for a bargain when I can get one.

Times are tough, and sure to get tougher, we all need to tighten our belts so nows a great time to get in touch with your inner miser.

I was looking at TAFE courses to see if i could learn how to connect up and go off grid. But I am not a very technical practical person. I hate the cost of electricity.

If you're in Canberra, you may still be able to get solar power rebates that will allow you to sign up with companies who install solar panels at their own cost, and they pay for it by selling the power to the grid for 10 years (or something), and they also pay you (which should cover any normal power bills). Depends if you own your own house too, I guess.

A friend of mine did this... ( holiday home project thingy) and for the first few months he raved about the potential of him being able to sell power back to the grid....had dreams of the power company owing him credit, not having to pay another bill.

He's a builder by trade, and had the expertise to do much of it on the cheap, but he's even tossed it in as of late.. was a bit of a downer for him, i'll go have a look at Homes pictorial...his hippie-hut (lol, thats what I called it ) may even still be up for sale... if so....you can get a reasonable view of it from the front of the property... it's on acreage, but he more or less said now solar is in demand, the cost of PV cells has skyrocketed... there seems to be less and less competition... whereas back in the early 2000's every bastard was importing and flogging them.
