Warning to NSW-State government re-Richmond airport

Post by mellie » Tue Apr 05, 2011 7:15 pm

If airport plans follow through re- expanding Richmond-base airport, it wont be without loud protest.

Too many local schools are flat out learning in an already 'loud' noise polluted environment, if this worsens and it will should it become a commercial airport, then the public wont be happy.

We like our local community just the way it is.

Find another place to stuff it...better still, stop 'growing' beyond your means and existing infrastructure.

Do forgive if I am wrong, but I thought the air base was there a lot lot longer that current population, shouldn't it have preference?

Plus, with O'Ferral in power (a lib) nothing is worth looking at if it ain't in the Sydney CBD, already he has announced pulling all fund and help in country and regional areas.

The mountains are in the way, the big planes cant come in, so it means the only way they could do it would be a west-land and west- take off run-way only, aka a one-way run-way :D

See, military planes are designed to come in that way, short runway (landing/departure) at steep altitudes.

Who ever is combing the prospect is doing so with the intention of knowing like always it wont pass.

Brownie points.

Thats all.

I thought airports were a joint State-Federal decision/

I'm having a chuckle visualising a boeing 737, 747/A380 hovering over the mountains then landing like the Jetsons family space shuttle on a 3k runway (perhaps shorter)...

:D

I don't think it will be a go ahead, look at how long they been talking about Badgery Creek,
20 plus year now ain't it, if worst comes to worse they will have to pour concrete out in the water to extend runways.

I agree, I think it's another investor-sweetener, someone in government probably wants to flog off a block of land again.... we have been through it all before.

What happens is, they start talking 'development' , investors start juicing up, the plans fall through YET AGAIN...and someone else gets dumped with a useless block of swamp not even worthy of filling in for housing development...(flood plane).

The last time this happened, the couple across the road got caught, (they purchased land down in the low-lands Cornwallis), thinking if an airport went in it would be earmarked for industrial, but theres far too many obstacles, commercial, agriculturally, environmentally speaking , you name it, even thoroughbred race horse breeders argue their mares miscarry when too many planes fly overhead, and they do, local farmers get in on the act, ("We are the food bowl of Sydney")...... and the biggest killer is the one-way run-way...the bigger commercial planes cant safely get over the mountain and or depart/land with ease.

RAAF planes and private smaller jets are ok, and those accustomed to seriously steep descents, but not your average spring-loaded computer taught Jet-Star 19 year old pimply pilot with braces...lol... they would take one look at their flight simulated screen and shit themselves trying to come in over the mountain.

One way in, one way out... lol.... and a 3k (maximum) length runway.... lol

IMO the best idea is to either upgrade Canberra, or build one at Goulburn and complete a high speed rail link between there and Sydney

3 km may sound like a lot, but not allot of room for error.

Especially during bad weather, we have had some near misses with the bigger planes.... many of which try not to land here unless it's absolutely necessary.

We already have an express train, and plenty of shuttles.... but I agree, we need to expand on this to keep up with our increasing infrastructure due to a sprawling greater Western Sydney.

When it's clear, a few bike lanes just weren't enough. :D
