I just found my maternal Grandmother's Autograph Book. On one page, there is this:

"Slander dies a natural death at a poor woman's door."

It is dated 18.11.15

My Elder Brother (we are sorting out some Family records/stuff) agrees with your interpretatation, Darko....sort of.

His view was that a poor woman could say what they liked, and get away with it......no point suing a beggar, so to speak.

That's actually different to what I meant.

Your brother is saying that both rich and poor indulge in slanderable behaviour, but only the rich are deemed worthy of slandering.

My interpretation is that the rich are idle selfish buggers, and behave differently to poor women.
