I remember the fuss the Libs tried to make of Gough travelling to China, and how they begged Nixon not to go.
I rarely post in a thread started by smellie mellie but by god there was no support from the Libs for Gough’s first visit!

You've taken it all out of context
It is one thing to have trade which is quid pro quo, it is quite another opening the flood gates sacrificing Australia's economy, jobs and businesses.
and I do not believe China will walk over us simply because they have the ability, sure, we just like every other country buy product from China because lazy mongrels in the import/export game from home will buy from there at a far less cost than to make a product then sell at home for 50 times the amount, and we let it,.
I mentioned nothing about wars or conflict.
China won't walk over us, it is our own local industry that will stop our own local industry.
No one mentioned war, whered that tangent comment come from?
Rather the issue is about TRADE.
And how Australia is improving Trade from China's point of view (increasing China's exports increasing Australia's imports), but not from Australia's point of view.
That is what is drowning Australia.

Yes, but it is people like you and I that have caused it to get as big as it is, we want cheaper items,
industry want everything made at a cheaper labour cost to improve thier profit margin.
You may have noticed that big retailers are complaining about you and I shopping on the internet, Why?
because we can buy it cheaper from overseas just like they do and therefore cutting back thier profits.

Trade is meant to be to and fro from both parties - reciprocated.
Not one way (or biased), imports somewhat matched with exports
Re: Saving Australia from the Greens:--and Chinas red army
Do we not sell raw materials to China so they can produce an item to be sold worldwide?Trade is meant to be to and fro from both parties - reciprocated.

Do we not sell food product to them?
Do we not buy processed food product back from them?
Do we not sell timber product to them?
Do we not buy it back as either wood chip/pulp/furnature?
We buy and sell to each other, the only reason they have a bigger hand is because China has a population about 200 times bigger than we do, one bad thing is that our dollar can buy more from them than they can from us.
Same with U.S, we have equal dollar now, so we can buy more from them.

You're not familiar with the Rudd-Gillard foreign trade or current issues are you
Re: Saving Australia from the Greens:--and Chinas red army
Forgive me, my bad, I though "Trade" was an agreement made between two parties.
So why do many believe that China will walk all over Australia?

Re: Saving Australia from the Greens:--and Chinas red army
I imagine, because they don't recognise patents or registered designs, so will make knock offs of just about anything and everything, and now they're acquiring such a large manufacturing base they'll gain the ability to dominate economy of scale, meaning they can sell their products cheaper than we can make it.
