Australia world's third freest economy: US slips

Post by Jovial Monk » Tue Jan 13, 2009 5:22 pm

"Hong Kong has been named the world's freest economy for the 15th year in a row by American think-tank the Heritage Foundation, followed by Singapore and Australia.

"North Korea and Zimbabwe came in at the bottom of the rankings, released on Tuesday.

"The annual index, which measures a jurisdiction's commitment to free-market capitalism, placed the southern Chinese city atop a list of 179 economies.

"Hong Kong's Asian rival Singapore was again ranked second, followed by Australia, Ireland and New Zealand, according to the pro-free market group.

"The United States dropped one place to sixth, because of increases in both tax revenue and government spending as a percentage of GDP, one of the report's authors, Terry Miller, said in an article in the Wall Street Journal."

Obama will take the US towards a social democratic economy, like we have. Agree?

I have an issue with this.

Proffered it years ago, and it has to do with the ALP modelling itself on the PAP of Singapore. Back then I proposed that the ALP would crush the Australian economy with the use of the PAP model, the BW/CC debate, the ACTU machine, and the Kyoto Protocol.

Signing the Kyoto protocol before barricading the stock exchange made us vulnerable under Marxist protaginators to some economic punishment due to our 'nasty' per-capita carbon emmisions and 'horrible' rampant capitalism as espoused and inflicted upon us by the cultural Left in Auslund.

Hence the Australian stock exchange has been pilfered as punishment. The PAP model keeps us in check.

I always thought of America as being a freer economy. I'm pretty sure they have lower taxes.

a jurisdiction's commitment to free-market capitalism

Is this something we really want to be proud of being highly ranked in. Extreme capitalism is invariably related to extreme poverty.

You can hardly call Australia extreme. The government controls (taxes) over one third of GDP.
