Have the ALP releasd any business plan yet?
What about the costs, have they been released yet?
Guess the funding hasn't been released yet either.

Like going to a bank manager telling them that you're buying a house, don't know where or what type of house, or whether any land is involved, or furniture, and not knowing how much it will cost either.
Just sign the blank cheque and I'll let you know some details (maybe) sometime later.

No business in Australia will be unaffected. We are going to move huge amounts of material online which will enable organisations to decentralise to reduce peak hour travel. But it will also enable them to perform engineering, medical and a vast number of other tasks remotely. We will market our goods and services to the world in a way that has simply not been possible before.

A whole series of new industries and businesses will arise out of the NBN as our households become part of the internet

Yep, and they will be indirectly funded by the taxpayer via the losses of NBN. It could result in being the 21st Cs new make work programme.

Losses! No way the NBN will lose money just the video over IP applications will see to that. And those business uses. Then think of the non-direct financial benefits—more decentralisation meaning cheaper houses, less gridlock at peak hours costing $$$Bn.

Dangerous words. A large, high risk initiative has a good chance not going to plan and losing moneys or overcharging the public for it's services. Time will tell.

First wireless will leave the White Elephant behind . . .

And second,
NSW Government to ban NBN throughout the state

Fresh from its massive election win last week, the incoming O'Farrell Coalition Government in NSW has vowed to halt the Federal Government's National Broadband Network in its tracks. According to a report out of Macquarie Street, not one strand of NBN fibre will be allowed to reach one home in NSW even if residents choose to opt in to the rollout program.

I guess that should be an interesting test of the limits of federal jurisdiction in this particular matter.

While anything is possible with this dictatorial pretend government the compensation claims would be spectacular to behold.

The White Elephant is already facing cost blow outs (and we all know the take up rate is abysmal) so imagine the colossal costs that the next ten generations will face for rotting cables few use.

What's possible is that Fatty O'Barrel is still high on the victory rush and is just bloviating loudly.

I guess you all fell for a April 1st joke?

States have ZERO power over communications.

Wireless is crap compared to wired. Come on SN you agreed with me on that!

Wireless is a great supplementary service when you are on the road, not so good when you want to upload stuff or watch a movie when at home.

Contention
Latency
Attenuation
(Lack of) bandwidth compared to fibre

I am on wireless broadband. It sucks. On a day of high humidity, even without rain, service can only be charitably described as “intermittent.”

The amount of pure party-political dribble spilled over the NBN would fill several Sydney Harbors, what a complete waste of time. Try reading Whirlpool some time, Lib fanbois come in and spout the same rubbish time after time. The Nats, specifically Banaby Joyce aka Barnyard and Fiona Nash, wrote a paper for the Nats equivalent of Menzies House (Page House IIRC?) which was pretty much the exact blueprint for Labor’s NBN and would have provided rural people with the type of communication they need. Now these same two Nats oppose the NBN—party politics, blech!
