Punter's Golden Handshake

Post by donniedarko » Wed Mar 30, 2011 11:25 pm

So, Punter resigns as captain, and Spoofy Boy Clarke takes the reins.

Did Punter accept a golden handshake, to resign the captaincy in return to being able to keep playing in the test squad as another old batsman?

Yes, I reckon so. I give you Tendulka. Ponting is after that Indian's record. He is good shape to get there too.

Punter should never have been captain, now we have Clarke who is a tool. Australian cricket is lost!

Why would cricket australia need to give any incentives to retire? It's not like they couldn't just give punter the boot any time they wanted, atm.

Spoofy boy? :D

Ponting was sacked. In order to save face, CA gave him the opportunity to lie to us and tell us it was his decision. On form, he should have been dropped many months ago.

Get real. He won't get anywhere near Tendulkar's record. He is over 2,300 runs shy of Tendulkar's test run aggregate and almost 5,000 runs shy of Tendulkar's ODI run aggregate. On current form it would take him about 387 seasons to bridge that gap. He's washed up and his career will be over in the very near future. I can't believe CA didn't dump him altogether. His numbers have been shit for two years now.

Michael Clarke, can't bat, can't bowl, can't field, so why is he even in the side.
His only credential is that he is from NSW.
Why is he captain?
Well he got rid of Andrew Symonds, got rid of Damien Martyn, and now he got rid of Ricky Ponting.
If he could only apply that self-centered interest and get rid of opposition players just as quick.

Well, his average in tests is around 47 which is good enough and in ODIs it's 44 which is excellent.

Can't bowl? Irrelevant - he's a batsman.

Can't field? Bzzzt. He has good hands, he's quick and he's accurate when pinging at the stumps.

So all of your reasons for dumping him are a load. Ok?

I neither like nor dislike the dude. I just can't understand why so many people get their panties knotted about Clarke. What exactly is the problem with him?

The last person Australia would want in any dire situation is Michael Clarke, unreliable and still cannot bat.
And he can't bowl which is relevant, as all players must be able to do at least 2/3 roles.
Clarke drops too many opportunities and has a weak arm, he may have a chance of hitting the stumps from the popping crease, can't field.
Again, why is Clarke even being selected in the side. Apparently it is only because of his off-field demeanour.
