NSW Parliament House will be more like a Lib-Nat convention.

The ALP are now officially a minor party.

That's a pity, they told me how to think. I haven't a clue what to do now.

Kristina Keneally concedes defeat
March 26, 2011 - 9:55PM

Kristina Keneally has stood down as leader of the NSW Labor Party after suffering a catastrophic defeat in the state election.

The ousted premier, who fought a dogged campaign despite expectations that the coalition would win in a landslide, said Labor must now unite and that was best done under a new leader.

"I believe that the next stage of renewal for our party is best undertaken by a new leader, a new leader who can take up the next phase of our party's renewal, unencumbered," she told party supporters on Saturday night.

"A new leader who will have my support, and, if it is any use, my counsel from the back bench."

Ms Keneally said she took responsibility for the election result, which could leave Labor with as few as 20 seats in the 93-seat parliament after 16 years in government.

But she also acknowledged the troubles Labor had had, especially over the past four years, when it was dogged by scandals and accusations of mismanagement, and dumped two of its leaders - Morris Iemma and Nathan Rees.

"Tonight the Australian Labor Party has suffered a significant loss, and there is no hiding from that," she said.

"The truth is the people of NSW, who entrusted us with government for 16 years, did not leave us, we left them."

She said Labor must learn the lessons of the defeat - and that was the importance of unity.

"The reality is that our lack of unity as a party, and in some individual members, put the very future of the NSW Labor Party at risk," she said.

Ms Keneally said she had spoken to the new premier Barry O'Farrell to congratulate him.

"The people of NSW always get it right and so tonight I congratulate Mr O'Farrell and I wish him and the government that he will form all the best," she said.

"To be elected to parliament is a privilege and so I say to Barry O'Farrell, you now have the best job in politics - premier of the greatest state.

"So NSW deserves the very best from you.

"It's been a great privilege, indeed the greatest privilege of my life, to serve NSW as the premier, and for that I thank the Labor Party and the people of NSW."

Ms Keneally thanked the electorate, former Labor premiers Bob Carr, Morris Iemma and Nathan Rees, her family, colleagues and staff for their support.

"Fifteen months ago, a woman from Ohio became the premier of this state," she said.

"And, when some said the people of NSW would not accept such a leader, the people of this state took me on my merits. They let me put our case to them. They are the most inspiring, the most hard working people that it is ever a pleasure to serve.

"Tonight I thank them, and I owe them a debt of gratitude."

Ms Keneally said she would stay on as the member for Heffron.

Contenders for the Labor leadership are expected to include John Robertson, who hopes to win the seat of Blacktown and has been touted as the party's next leader.

:)

I reckon it will be about 60/40 (Libs way)

And thats being generous and taking Labors electoral fraud into consideration.

Ok, so how far off was I?

The Two party preferred seems about 64 to 36 in the Coalition's favour, according to the electoral office count..

4% margin of error it seems , hmmm, I must work on that.

You know what shits me?

Various news polls, roy Morgan, Nielsen work in conjunction with betting agencies, the media and pollys so even if they know the likely outcome themselves, they don't put it out there for the public.

I knew they were lying with their poll findings, (I knew they couldn't be that far off...3, 4, 5 %..ok, but a whole 10 to 14% out...get real :D ).., and i'm sick of it. Their lies have the potential to interfere with election outcomes, especially when they are close..(ie the 2010 hung parliament) ....allot of the time it's monkey see monkey do .... so many morons vote for the said more popular party at the time..as though they were betting on horses.... "Party A looks like a clear winner, I think I might back them."

or...

"Everyone's voting for party B , so I will vote for them too"

I'd like to see electoral betting banned, it's become a blood sport, it's our government for christs sakes, not the Melbourne cup.

Grow up Australia, we vote with our feet and like pack-animals, sheeple, like kindergarten children playing follow the leader, and believe much of what our media tells us... we need to start thinking for ourselves and find a reality check point.

Remember the days when we actually used our brains to solve everyday mathematical equations, not resorting to a calculator?

If news polls continue publishing BS results deliberately for sinister reasons, then perhaps we should boycott these polls and send a clear message home to them that we are not fucking retards and are going to expose their lies...each and every time they try to fool the masses.

Two-party vote: Coalition 54% (steady) lead ALP 46% my ass... .. electoral betting should be criminalised, become a federal offence.

Essentially, electoral betting is a type of electoral fraud, just very hard to prove intent.

I think federal Labor will be very happy the stinking carcass of the NSW Labor govt is gone and with it the NSW Right of Labor. Pretty good result for Labor on the balance. Would have been better if the stupid Libs could have won last time! So incompetent they actually lost last time!

The people of Vic threw out a good ALP govt and are starting to wonder WTF they did that for. In NSW they might know why but they will like their new Lib govt even less. Ted Bailieu has no idea and Fatty O’Barrel relies on Ted for help. Despite the size of the swing I don’t think it will take many terms for the NSW Lib govt to be thrown out on their ear.

Fatty is going to need a lot of money, money that will have to come from Canberra so he will be no problem for Julia and her agenda.
