$700 for a 20 volt is pretty average.
Although can be found at about half the price.
And then I can build my own for about half the price again.

Picked up a 2 panel briefcase 12 volt camping type panel from K-mart for $80 a couple of months ago, went back for another but they'd sold out and said were discontinued. Checked online, still available for slightly less, $74 I think.
Anyway solar PV is pretty cheap these days, and seems to keep getting cheaper all the time.

PVC: A major environmental health disaster

PVC is the worst plastic from an environmental health perspective, posing major hazards in its manufacture, product life and disposal.
Toxic Manufacturing By-products: Dioxin (the most potent carcinogen known to science), hydrochloric
acid and vinyl chloride are unavoidably created in production of PVC and can cause severe health problems to
workers, fence-line communities and ultimately to us all.

• Cancer
• Endometriosis
• Neurological damage
• Immune system damage
• Respiratory problems
• Liver and kidney failure
• Birth defects

In the U.S. PVC is manufactured predominately near low-income communities in Texas and Louisiana. The
toxic impact of pollution from these factories on these communities has made them front line struggles in the
environmental justice movement.
Lethal additives: PVC is useless without the addition of a plethora of toxic
chemical stabilizers - such as lead and cadmium - and phthalate plasticizers.
These leach, flake or outgas from the PVC over time raising risks from asthma
to lead poisoning to cancer.Global impact: Dioxin’s impact doesn’t stop there. As a persistent bioaccumulative
toxin (PBT), it does not breakdown rapidly and travels around
the globe, accumulating in fatty tissue and concentrating as it goes up the
food chain. Dioxins from Louisiana manufacturing plants migrate on the
winds and concentrate in Great Lakes fish. Dioxins are even found in hazardous
concentrations in the tissues of whales and arctic polar bears.

Don't know anyone who's spent over $20K, and we're doin' just fine.
Make up any figures you like, we're still going to take the best deal we can get, and at the moment, that's Solar PV.

AFAIK poly vinyl chloride (PVC) is unrelated to photovoltaics, one's plastic, the other's silicone.

$80,000 is the average cost of converting to PVC solar, to supply up to 85% of your household energy requirements for an average size family.
According to who?

BTW, PVC is plastic, and PV is usually silicone.
Plastic is not electrically conductive, actually its resistant.
Should try to understand the topic you're addressing y'know, otherwise everybody knows you're an idiot parroting figures you have no idea are credible or not.

Lol...do you honestly think you would get home and contents insurance from an insurance company who inspect your property this and demand PVC panel installation documentation by a reputable company and authorised installer after the cause of fire has been ascertained?

You are incredible, beyond belief actually.

Are you a qualified installer?

Ie, if your house burned to the ground because you chose to install some crap-ass DIY solar-panel kit...do you think your insurer would cover your stupidity?

Dream on.

PVC panels are known for causing house-fires, particularly the DIY kits people buy off the net...so good luck with that.

Twit.
Grow up!

What photovoltaic panels are made from poly vinyl chrloride brainstorm?

Y'know, I've never heard of a 12 volt system, or even a 24 volt system causing a house fire.

Why would I want insurance for non flamable structures? Mud & cement dont burn.

It's $80,000 for an average family sized home... end of story, and yes, I know someone who went to the expense, this and advised they sold power back to the grid, though upon last report, and despite their being a qualified installer, even they are not replacing their panels after this lot expire due to them not living up to their expectations. They advised with time, the PVC cells capture less energy, seem to deteriorate, so as time passes, they find their coal-bill increasing how ever slowly. At first, he advised he had a small surplus, energy he could sell back to the grid and gain energy credits for,(like money in the bank, it sounded fantastic).... now the stupid things are flat out supplying 3/4 of their energy needs in under 2 years, hence they are now using a portable gas BBQ and heater to cook and keep warm in...(the house is near Lithgow)...so gets cold, and they cant even use their air-conditioner...without the power cutting in and out during the warmer months.

Lithgow is pretty, but is a hell hole during winter and summer, freezing cold in winter and stifling hot in summer.

It was more or less a project-home...(he's a bit of a DIY man, and a bit of an eccentric too)... a holiday house, not something they live in full time, and at first, they were enthusiastic, and so was I...(I even mentioned it over on ozpolitic after I first learned of his project which at the time seemed to be a good idea)...but after a couple of years, for some strange reason even he's lost enthusiasm...this and actually plans on selling it to whatever stupid fuck will buy it.

Are you interested?

idiot, it's compulsory if you have a mortgage....

Afterall, the bank want something they can repossess if like so many under a Labor government you cant make the payments.

Seriously, how thick are you?

lol. this only comes with a 5 year warranty...*cringe*

Going off the grid (being coal-free and self sufficient) costs upwards and beyond 80k....here, listen to what some in the know have to say ...

I don't believe in your god, or any one elses.
I don't have a mortgage. I own my property outright, have done for 15+ years.
So if I'm an idiot, I'm a debt free and repo proof one.
Never saw the value in mortgaging my life away for a 1/4 acre or less of mundane suburbia, so went for $1000 an acre for space and privacy. Can't even see a neighbors dwelling from my abode.
