Quite a resume... or do I have to call it a CV now?

Well, that's what she is... she visited Libya's rebels before they set out to overthrow their government.

Everyone knows what's going on... peace-keeping apparently...

Howard called it going to war, Labor call it peace-keeping and upholding democracy and civil rights... call it what you like but at the end of the day...they will have innocent blood on their hands in their pursuit of Libya's Gas, Oil and petroleum.

What's peaceful about handing military weapons to rebel protesters and civilians rebelling against their established government?

Like handing a child a gun....

Meanwhile Rudd rabidly tweets away to continue stoking the fire.

Hi Mellie.

What the hell is going on? Why is the West hell-bent on attacking Libya? I've been trying to read the far left press (they can surprisingly be quite good at speculating on the driving forces of geopolitics) in vain to figure out a reasonable motive, but it really seems like our feckless leaders actually give a shit about saving the precious widdle webels from big, bad Gaddafi.

Has everyone forgotten the lesson of the Iraq War already? Are our attention spans so short that we don't realize that destabilizing a state is not the best idea? Do Western leaders really believe this is 1989 people power and not customary tribal warfare? Who is going to be in charge when Gaddafi goes? Will Libya's territory remain in tact with a stable central government? Will Libya's new leaders be positive or negative for the interests of the West?

I know Balack Obongo and Sarko were fools, but this kind of bumbling ineptitude is particularly galling.

The whole situation makes my stomach turn to be honest. Why on earth are we getting involved here? What the hell do we know about these rebels? Gadaffi was a reliable supplier of oil. This conflict would have been over in two days had we decided not to start blowing the hell out of Gaddafi's forces. The only thing I've been impressed by out of all of this is the level of cynicism displayed by the public over getting involved here. Of course, our political elites, are not listening. They never are.

While there's resources to dominate and exploit, we will forever be in there getting our feet wet, and trying to get our end in.

Libya are self sufficient, have abundant gas, oil, petroleum...the UN just couldn't have a thriving economy they couldn't dictate to.

One which wouldn't comply with their exploitive WTO..(World Trade Authority)...

Greed, it's as simple as that.

Yes, it's a disgrace.

Face it, we are fast becoming obedient slaves to a global government, this being the UN.

They dictate our trade even.

Someone who relys on the rest of the world to buy their oil in order to buy what they need to survive is not "self sufficient"

You twit... are you a self sacrificial martyr this and suggesting we deserve to regress to 3rd world living standards after having dominated and exploited innocent nations taking care of themselves until we rudely intervened in the name of greed?

Sorry, but I didn't make this decision, so why should I have to pay an unscrupulous governments debt to another nations society?

Yes, someone who sells their own product or service in order to survive is self sufficiency....this opposed to a UN pillaging and taking control of what's not theirs...dictating global world trade supplementing themselves 10 % in the process and for what again?

For being a world authority on legalised/rationalised blood letting?

:D

Tell me, why are the UN entitled to 10 % of Australia's carbon-tax revenue?

And what right did the UN have in setting upon Libya?

Here we have Indigenous Australians and refugees enduring horrendous 3rd world conditions on Christmas and Palm island being tear-gassed and maced for protesting/rebelling against their/our government ...do you see the UN stepping in for them and or supplying them with military weapons and or imposing no-flight zones?

Why is it acceptable that we treat people this way, yet we readily condemn an established Libyan government for trying to do the same, combat civil unrest and maintain control of it's nations dissidents, rebels, protesters?

Double standards much?

Hypocrites.

The Obama administration is eager to transfer military command to NATO to portray the six-day-old operation as an international humanitarian mission, rather than a U.S.-led offensive in another Muslim country.

Obama is also facing mounting pressure from Congress about the operation’s goals and the extent of U.S. involvement. The president has promised to turn over control of the mission within “days, not weeks,” with the United States assuming a supporting role.

So, Obama and the UN have decided to hand Libya over to NATO.

Not such a good look after all was it.

claims that Libyan dictator Colonel Gaddafi’s military machine was a dead duck and his air force “destroyed” were proved embarrassingly wrong yesterday.

He continued to make advances against rebels despite the air war by the coalition and evidence emerged that he still has jets and helicopters.

In the most dramatic incident of the day a French fighter jet destroyed a Libyan plane after it landed on a runway near the besieged city of Misrata.

It was later found to be a G-2/Galeb training plane. The US also said it had attacked a squadron of Gaddafi’s helicopters on the ground – further proof his air force had not been destroyed. This came a day after RAF Air Vice-Marshal Greg Bagwell, who commands the UK’s air operations, said: “Effectively, their air force no longer exists as a fighting force.”

Gaddafi’s troops stepped up their offensive yesterday on rebel-controlled Misrata.

Two of his ships are reported to have moved along the coast near the city, to the east of capital Tripoli, threatening an artillery strike. And his tanks and gunmen dodged allied attacks. Rebels claimed they killed 30 government snipers as they liberated the port from Gaddafi’s forces, potentially opening up an aid lifeline to Misrata.

But Libya’s government insisted that it was now in control of the city.

The coalition has also failed to dislodge Gaddafi’s forces from the strategic town of Ajdabiyah in the east. A senior military source told the Mirror: “Gaddafi is proving to be a difficult adversary. The allies will prevail – but the slaughter and horror could go on for some time.

“The idea of coalition ground troops going in appears to be an increasingly necessary move – although British troops are unlikely to be sent in.”

The no-fly zone is still in place but Nato agreed last night to take control of it.

UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon said yesterday that Gaddafi’s government and the rebels will attend a meeting in Ethiopia as part of efforts to reach a political solution – as reports emerged some of his family members are putting out feelers to seek a ceasefire.

The news came as it was revealed Chancellor George Osborne tried to dodge footing the bill for Britain’s Libya mission in a move that could have thrown more troops on the dole.

Wars are traditionally funded from the Treasury reserve but Mr Osborne demanded the costs should come out of the cash-strapped Ministry of Defence’s budget.

He only caved in late on Monday, according to Whitehall insiders.

Gaddafi is persisting. You know what it means if he keeps up with this resistance; boots on the ground in Libya. Obama claimed to have called out any chances of troops being deployed on Libyan soil but I'm doubtful that they'll keep up that promise much longer. Our countries are fucking bankrupt. If this happens I'm going to be really angry.

More of his people love him than dont,...this is why the UN and US infiltrated his people via social-network sites, this and even we planted an Australian Muslim (and his wife and kids) who are pro-socialist rebels over there to head the protest.

See it for what it is, us raping and pillaging an Arab nation for their natural resources....Iraq all over again...only we didn't fly planes into an iconic western buildings this time to make our advance appear necessary and genuine at least.

This time, we chose to divide and conquer, an old Roman tactic.... we infiltrated the enemy from within. Hillary Clinton was over in Libya before it all broke out...this and has been conversing with Libyan protesters/rebels ever since.

Even our Rudds in on the act, has been twittering away madly the dope.

What a fucking mess.

This train-wreck of a government cant even cover their tracks properly, this or even make it appear in good faith.

We did the same to Egypt recently.
