The Government would have to offer low income households about $500 to $600 a year in tax cuts or welfare increases to cover the cost of a carbon tax on current estimates.
Surely they know that their carbon tax will cost far more than that...oh that's right they do, they are only hoping to sucker the loser vote who have no idea on who it is going to increase year on year, week on week, day on day.

Fuck me, this govt really should be tossed out as completely fucking incompetent

She's certainly got herself in a mess and she's trying to distance herself from the Greens. It's a bit late for that now and it's going to backfire. Regardless of how much some of the extremist RW's detest the Greens - they don't misrepresent themselves or their agenda. The carbon tax might just be knocked back in the Senate unless Labor can sell it a little better. The latest effort to attach it to tax reform isn't being well received. It means those on lower to middle incomes will have to wait a year before they can recoup the extra costs incurred from the tax.

Thank you mantra, we have always been for secret back room preference deals, huge corporate donations and the use of force in the middle east haven't we.

Do you expect all talks between political parties to be discussed publicly? Little progress would be made if that was the case. As far as the Greens supporting Rudd in his call for a no fly zone - I'm surprised at that, but haven't found confirmation that the whole of the party supported that.

The Greens disclose all their donations. They have made some compromises - but if they are to be a little competitive and get a few of their policies legislated - they have no other choice.

I'd suggest that the impact of this carbon tax will lie somehwere between the no effect at all model being shown by Labor and the death of Western civilisation model proposed by IQS

Either way will be a travesty and a tragedy

Probably too early to tell at this stage. GST was predicted in some quarters to have similar impact to carbon tax. Didn't turn out that way in the end.

GST wasn't introduced on a false premise claiming to fix something that may or may not be broken

Yes, you've made your ignorance of scientific thought quite clear.
