A PROTESTER has been shot in the face just hours after the opening of the controversial duck hunting season this morning.

Protester Julia Symons of Melburne suffered pellet injuries to her face, teeth and hand in a accidental shooting at Lake Buloke, 12km east of Donald in Victoria's west.

Witnesses say Ms Symons, aged in her 20s, was waist-deep in water when she was shot by the hunter, believed to be aiming at a low-flying bird.

Ms Symons was conscious when she was carried from the water by fellow protesters of a duck rescue group.

They said she still had pellets lodged in her face, and one of her teeth had been shot out.

She was taken to Horsham Hosptial where she is in a stable condition.

Protesters were at the lake to voice their anger at the 2011 hunting season which will see each hunter permitted to kill 10 birds per day.

There is a big flock of ducks just down the road. Must be at least a few dozen of them. I think it will be a good season for them this year or next.

Protestor WIN! Get shot in the face due to your own stupidity, and get a healthy dose of public sympathy :D

Ducks have got quite a few fine bones like some fish ... better stewed than roasted IMO.
Not real keen on pickin' pellets outa carcasses, so hardly ever use a shotgun.

How'z this? ... most of these duck hunters are in the wrong gear .. most likely Realtree cams or ex mil clothing ect.

Well I found out owls are the only birds that can see blue .. and figured that's why eagles ect can see fish in the water.

So I ran a little experiment. I put on blue King-Gee overalls, made a ninja style balaclava from a dark blue T-shirt, walked right up to the edge of a dam in full view, and they could not tell where I was shooting from ... got one in the neck with a 6.5x55, then had to strip naked to retrieve it.

Duck hunting is a primitive, callous and cruel sport. Do any of the hunters and their advocates give a stuff about the thousands of baby ducklings left without protection or the ducks left wounded and dying a slow, painful death?

I hope a few hunters get shot in the face this year.

Kinky.

But seriously... I really doubt that that is how camophlage works. Being colour blind to a certain colour doesn't make that colour invisible to them. It means that it is indistinguishable to some other colours. So, even if you wear blue... and we accept that, to most birds, blue is indistinguishable to green (let's say green, because it's a common colour in nature), they would still notice the movement when the blue/green shape moved in front of different coloured stuff...

Still... camo hunting gear is lame.

I'm trying to work out how getting shot by somebody else is "your own stupidity". I'd call it the illegal discharge of a firearm ... or worse.
