Oh, plenty of insects and lizards in my garden! While we keep an eye on Demi and took one lizard out her mouth (lizard was OK) she has killed one lizard and constantly hunts for them
A few years back I sprayed nearly the whole lawn with roundup, now have fruit trees & veges, flowers etc. Occasionally an awkward to reach patch gets a bit of a spray.
When the bit of lawn left gets bugs blackbirds come and eat the bugs.

Wow,
nattering tree huggers,
wheres the 'political' volks?
Like, why dont the greenies Like that Bob Brown advocate for more trees. Perhaps the weirdo ring-in lefty front doesnt really understand the science of true carbon sequestration. Perhaps they are all about supplanting God with the 'wisdom' of men. What a barrren place that can and might soon and sometimes be.
Sure errors in the past have been made, but that doesnt mean we should all suffer because of the propigators of the status-quo. No!
Instead, this psyche should be rolled over the top of at every oppurtunity, in order to get past previous folly, and now in the future era's, employ more repairative efforts, instead of simply refferencing the moaning socialist world view.
In this way, the full capabilities of scientific man can be employed for the better, not simply for the betterment of the certain true believers. Indeed, the current government is a manifestation of just such a scenario, with Australia being rolled back historically, ecenomically socially, politically, perhaps strategically, certain diplomatically, and probably even criminally.
This is occuring at a rapid rate because the current government is in fact a massive gang, with alterior motives, non-national beleifs, alternative psychies, preventative fronts and activists.
They wont accept any supplication that argues a solution other than the one they will ultimately demand. Even as we see the emerging failures of social policy resulting in negative statistics, cleavage, anomie and derision. The propogators of same are indeed to blame, and the ultimate purpose for their being in power, is simply for the power itself. Meanwhile, we are supposed to accept the paganist position that Labor has an inherited right to govern whereas all others do not; we are to adopt the national psyche which determines this fact: Love Labor, assail the other.
Blabbing on about the Liberals now means nothing, for they have no power hardly at all, except only to herd Labor like a mob of cats through the houses of Parliament.
Labor wont reduce heat, they wont reduce carbon, they wont save the world, they wont get it 'right', they cant see the trees for the forest, and most of all, they cant love what they inherently hate:- that which they have inherited.
Hate in kind - Power in kind.

Well, I spose he might, just a little.
But he seems more attuned to the rights of the dead, the about to be dead, them seeking death, the living dead, the unborn about to be dead, the dead warmed up, the gays, the whales, the ferals, all minorities, distant offshore minorities, Hix la terror, aetheism, and whatever else doenst matter, rather than purifying the rarified ETS botchup.
No, B Brown nose is just in it for the votes, the gay rites, a marriage certificate and a leave pass on the most crucial and dangerous threat to living man, carbon released from Gods' Sun.

You've got it wrong Whitey. Bob Brown is into conserving what little nature we have left, so that our children's children will know what native animals and tropical forests look like. He also wants to ensure that future generations grow up with fresh food and drink unpolluted water. Just the basics really - he certainly isn't in it for the money. What he's had to put up with over the last couple of decades far surpasses any politician's wage. He is Australia's only truly honest politician and unfortunately he's getting older now, but he still hasn't slowed down in his quest for a humane and economically sustainable country. No, B Brown nose is just in it for the votes, the gay rites, a marriage certificate and a leave pass on the most crucial and dangerous threat to living man, carbon released from Gods' Sun.

It means that the stats look less surprising than the headline. They seem to be only based on 40 years of actual observations, and as such it's not all that surprising that at least one recent month would show up as the "extreme" of that period.mantra wrote:Hmmmm. You sound like Kevin Rudd boxy. What's that mean in English?I'm no statistician, but the figures seem to be based on far too short a time of actual observational evidence, and extrapolated over a longer period.

Two recent months. Oct 2003 & 2008.

Greens MP calls on Government to reprioritise Soil Carbon
Sequestration
Greens MP Ian Cohen, in coincidence with this week’s Soil Carbon
Expo, is calling upon the Minister for Primary Industries to cull
government funding for the Clean Coal fund and reinject the funds into
soil carbon sequestration and agricultural based GHG emission reduction
projects.
“Last week I put a motion before the Legislative Council that the NSW
Government acknowledge the emission reduction capacity of New South
Wales’ agricultural sector and start prioritising this sector instead
of subsidising clean coal projects” says Mr Cohen.
“NSW Department of Primary Industries has provided $500,000 to the
National Centre for Rural Greenhouse Gas Research compared with $50
million dollars already committed for clean coal projects in NSW.”
“Why is the NSW Government disproportionately subsidising Clean Coal
research for companies awash with record profits off the back of a
sustained resource boom while leaving the agricultural sector, battling
through an extended drought, with bread crumbs.”
“Some of the world's leading soil scientists suggest that more
regenerative farming and grazing practices in Australia would sequester
upwards of 927 million tonnes of CO2 a year and that such practices on 5
per cent of Australia's grazing land could offset this country's total
greenhouse gas emissions.”
“Instead of acknowledging my repeated calls for increased funding in
Parliament, the Minister has closed the Glenn Innes research facility
which has undertaken extensive research into soil carbon and crop
rotation.”
“If Alberta, Canada, home of the environmentally damaging Oil Sands
can introduce a voluntary carbon offset market which includes 9
different agricultural emission reduction methods, then NSW can surely
do the same. Albertan farmers who have adopted reduced tillage practices
to reduce CO2 release from soils into the atmosphere have received
$6,000 dollars on average from a carbon purchase agreement with a
provincial electricity generator EPCOR.”

Logging vigilantes attacked cars with axes and incendiaries
The logging vigilantes who firebombed two cars parked by the
Strathgordon tourist route late Thursday night first attacked the cars
wielding an axe. Greens Leader Senator Bob Brown, who visited the site
of the attack today, has asked for police action against the vigilantes
and a patrol to keep watch on the area.
Senator Brown said that this attack, following a sledgehammer attack on
a protest car containing two young people on Thursday, was criminal
behaviour with pro-logging thugs taking the law into their own hands.
"This cuts right across the Bartlett Government's $1.6 million
advertising campaign using beauty and tranquillity to attract visitors
to Tasmania."
"Next, the logging authorities will chainsaw and firebomb the World
Heritage value Upper Florentine forest itself", Senator Brown said.

Australia's global climate leadership in the wrong direction
Australia is leading the world with the fastest rising greenhouse
emissions in the developed world, growing at 2% a year, according to a
study released by the Global Carbon Project today.
The Greens are calling on Prime Minister Kevin Rudd to focus on
opportunities to reduce emissions now, such as energy efficiency,
renewable energy and protecting forests, instead of making Australia the
world hub for an experimental technology to clean up coal in 10-15 years
time, if ever.
Senator Milne said "Kevin Rudd will be judged by Australians on whether
Australia's emissions continue to rise out of control or whether they
finally begin to fall.
"Promoting coal at the United Nations will not impress all those who
voted for Mr Rudd in order to see Australia take leadership on climate
change. Being the developed world's leading emitter was not what they
had in mind.
"At the moment, Australia's emissions from energy, transport and
forestry are rising out of control with no systemic approach to reining
them in.
"There are plenty of easy options for reducing emissions fast, which
many countries around the world have already seized.
"By rolling out energy efficiency across Australian homes, businesses
and industry, we could cut emissions by 15% and save money! Protecting
the vast carbon stores in our native forests and rolling out renewable
energy and mass transit can also be done fast if we put our minds to it.
"Instead, our governments are obsessed with protecting coal and
promoting a hypothetical technofix that could only start reducing
emissions 10-15 years into the future, if it can ever be proven to be
safe, effective and affordable.
"Our emissions are growing faster than others because we have not
bothered to take the fast and easy options for reining them in. Now we
are using our failure to do so as an excuse to keep failing.
"It is time to end the defeatism and seize the opportunities that come
from building a zero carbon economy. That's the leadership Australians
are looking for."

It's nice to see some positive news on the Greens and Bob Brown's work Heretic.
You know that the coal industry will always take precedence over the alternative energy industry. Clean coal is a joke - and just an excuse to give extra funding to this lucrative multinational industry. Unfortunately we are so heavily dependant on it and it's export, that subsidies will continue for a long time.
That's why it's so important that the Greens' voter base is increased. It's not just the fact that coal creates such high emissions - it's the collateral damage caused by longwall mining. We have lost so much natural water storage in NSW and it's increasing daily. Water is our most important asset and the mining companies have complete disregard for the destruction and depletion of our underground basins.

A number of major rivers in New South Wales have been cracked, drained and polluted by longwall coal mining. Rare upland swamps, particularly those on the Illawarra Escarpment and on the Newnes plateau near Lithgow, have dried up or had their water balanced altered. In almost every case, the groundwater table drops without recovering.
Mining is currently taking place inside Sydney's water supply catchment and further mining is proposed within Sydney and the Central Coast's supply catchments.
Mining companies are not held legally responsible for damage caused to natural ecosystems and water supply catchments, nor are they required to pay compensation

Indeed. And here's the idiot's guide to a perfectly repeatable experiment.freediver wrote:Unless of course you pull your head out of the sand and look at the science.Furthermore, there is no link between carbon emmisssions, and GW,
Aquire 2 sealable containers of equal volume. Preferably transparent spheres.
Place a thermometer in each chamber.
Fill control chamber with ordinary air and fill experiment chamber with raised levels of carbon dioxide/CO2.
Place both containers in direct sunlight and record speed of heating and duration of elevated temperatures.
Then explain away why the container with raised CO2 levels heats quicker and stays warmer longer.
Alternately if you don't trust the thermometer, just sit in the chamber with raised CO2 levels and see if you can work up a sweat sitting on your arse.
Has anyone considered the potential effects/implications electrons from solar winds have on ever increasing CO2 levels?
Solar winds are known to temporarilly blow away portions of ozone layer at the poles and simultaneously weaken the Earth's magnetosphere which protects us from harmfull cosmic radiation. Is ther the potential for CO2 [or alternately methane/CH4, or GHG coctails] to intensify the electrical impacts solar flares have on Earth?
