You want to know what broke my heart several months back?
A few doors down from the house I grew up in, in Sydney's west, Old Guildford, where a historic old white church is, (traditionally Church of England) is the church sign/noticeboard has Arabic writing on it, I went to sunday-school at that church.
I grew up in the house my father grew up in, my parents bought the family home off his parents (my grandparents) before they moved to QLD to start a new business, (my grandparents owned 4 shops...the news agency, grossery store, fish and chip, and post office at Mudjimba, which is a suburb north of the Maroochy River on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland. They left at the right time, after this, the area I grew up in virtually changed over night, went from a safe area to an area ruined by the ethnic sprawl. As the elderly people died off, they moved in, they even bullied my mother into selling her home, (my family owned 3 X 1/4 acre blocks of land in a row,) they wanted the land, wanted my family to sell up in one go. I grew up living next to my Aunty and uncle and the next house down from then again which is right next to the church lived my great aunt and uncle.
It's a horrible feeling going back to where you lived as a child and seeing it look like some developing countries b-rate community, the place looks like a shit hole, graffiti on the church, grass not being kept, horrible.
I will never visit where I grew up again, ever, too sad.

Re: Pauline Hanson back in poll race
Actually, it was originally 4 X 1/4 blocks in a row.. but the 4th was sold off sooner after subdivision due to one relative dying. Yes, and they got in quick with my late aunty's house..bought it before it even went on the market in fact.
My grandparents were avid Menzies campaigners, and needless to say, copped a fair amount of abuse on polling day by Muslims up at the local school, so even back then, it was apparent that Muslims were not fans of conservative politics, but this worsened after they left for QLD, in the suburb I was left to grow up, whereby I was discriminated against, spat on and abused by them just for being white. I went to St Pat's school, and when I was in, I think year 2/3, they even put a second bus on because the abuse got so bad they had to the kids were too afraid to catch the bus to school. St Pats primary and Guildford Public school were on the same street, and the ethnics would gang up on us and do some horrible things.
I think what our area endured is not unlike how may areas deteriorated back in the 80's as a result of poor suburban planning and ethnic sprawl.
Family friendly suburbia turned into disadvantaged ethnic slums over night.
I distinctly recall one occasion when a group of us walked to the local pool (we always walked along side the pipeline, occasionally on top even, lol)...when a car full of them began chasing us, called us skippy sluts, we were no older than 12 ..(little girls) was the summer before I started high school.
Our crime? We were dressed in out togs with shorts/skirts over the top, towel around our necks ...perhaps we weren't modest enough for them, not sure.
These men were older, early 20's at least, and they chased us all the way to the pool where they waited for us in the carpark, we then called our parents from the pool.
An innocent day out to the pool turned into a terrifying ordeal whereby we thought they were going to kill us.
It was definitely racially motivated, they called us Skippy sluts.
We were absolutely terrified.

I think when need to be more discerning, and give more thought to cultural integration,Pastafarian wrote:mellie wrote:My grandparents were avid Menzies campaigners, and needless to say, copped a fair amount of abuse on polling day by Muslims up at the local school, so even back then, it was apparent that Muslims were not fans of conservative politics, but this worsened after they left for QLD, in the suburb I was left to grow up, whereby I was discriminated against, spat on and abused by them just for being white. Multiculturalism shouldn't be about wiping out or disregarding a pre-existing culture, I am all for people immigrating to Australia the legal way, just I would like us to be more selective this and insist these people learn about our Australian culture.
A friend of mine put his lunch and a drink down at work in the lunch room (thought he'd go and wash up before having lunch)...only to come back to a Muslim devouring it as he walked off with it (I wont go into detail and or tell you what my friend did).... Anyway, the Muslim chose the worst possible day to do this, as this friend of mine was already in a bad mood, had not long seen a bloke he worked with get squashed up against a big-bin with a semi-trailer truck (Arab forgot to chock the wheels on his truck, the truck was parked on a ramp in an underground car park) and the cleaner didn't even hear it coming.
He's in critical care unlikely to live, work-cover were crawling all over the place yesterday, and the day before after the incident, the truck driver could barely speak a word of English, the truck was overdue for a service, no insurance, what a fucking nightmare.
The amount of people now involved in this incident is ridiculous, there's going to be a huge enquiry, (I doubt the guy will live given what my friend told me before the ambulance arrived at the scene)...for safety and cultural integration purposes, we need these people to know how to speak English, this and be willing to assimilate.
See, over in Iraq, it's acceptable for your truck to be a heap of shit and not even registered half the time, they are so dodgy, they don't appear to like following rules, think for some reason or another they are 'special' this and that our laws don't apply to them.
The second police book them, they start screaming racial discrimination, and many demonstrate a blatant disregard for our laws, even before they pile on board a boat before arriving illegally into our country.
Honestly, you would think we'd get the message.
Well, they have closed the job site down, George St at Haymarket.
The victims still in critical care, not sure how he's going though.

I think the worse crime is not committed by the person driving the truck, but by the person hiring him knowing he'd be potentially unsafe.

These things happen I guess, but we need them to assimilate, they come here and don't always adhere to our laws.
The truck driver was an owner driver.. so...

Then its probably the RTAs fault for allowing him to do that.

Do you agree, it's important for immigrants to be able to speak English when embarking on our workforce, be they a truck driver or a Nurse?Pastafarian wrote:mellie wrote:

Communication is so important, it can mean the difference between life and death.
Perhaps if he could speak and read English, he would have understood the OH&S regulations, after being inducted to that work site,(no stopping at that loading bay )...and if you are going to park your truck on a hill, you chock your wheels, it's as simple as that.

Well I think as important as it is for them to learn English, IME overwhelmingly they try to learn English, but a lot of the problem is available facilities. IMO assimilation is a two way street. Yes people have to want to assimilate, but we also as a society have to extend a helping hand to enable them to assimilate. It doesn't do much for your desire to assimilate when people are telling you to Fuck off, we're full.

We need to work on assimilating, it's so important.
The government are using them as pawns, to play one off against the other... ie..
Existing Australians complain, blame the immigrants for them being here, (When it's the governments fault), the government then address/spruke 'racist issues" to allude to their being tolerant and multicult friendly, when they only brought them here to keep wages down, exploit them, and score votes from certain minority groups....why do you think Labor had their Muslim MP's and faction war-lord?
Who was in cahoots with Getup, the online activist group who funded Gillards campaign. (Muslims run Getup)
Effectively, Labor created the problem, then tried to come up smelling like roses defending those being attacked racially, win/win...trouble is, Australia has woken up.
