If you want my opinion, you teach your kids to do the right thing because it is the right thing to do. Seems like you're teaching him to do the right thing only in expectation of a reward. It's the scurge of modern western society, a sense of entitlement. What is the point of teaching your children to do the right thing ie, alert authorities and the company/victim when they say "Yeah, thanks sport, but now we have this mess to contend with so, cheers, and thanks again."
If you don't want my opinion, well... fuck off, and don't post the topic next time.

Duh, boxy states the bleeding obvious......to everyone except mellie. Why did you keep back up copies, mellie (assuming there is even an ounce of truth in this story?) Have you had your phone call with the CEO? How did it go, mellie?
It seems you have backed off quite a bit, 'cause previously you said that with any luck, your son will receive some sort of citizenship award and scholarship and because of that, he needed to keep his nose clean in order to take full advantage of what what lies in store, and being a bright kid, he knew that better than anyone.
You said he had to keep his nose clean in response to my question about the threat you made to this Forum.

Normally it takes a few smacks of the baseball bat to get it through to you- even then the results aren't fantasticDuh, boxy states the bleeding obvious....

Yes she did say all that shite didn't she. Seems to me that she has an overly excited sense of entitlement. Pity the Centrelink workers who have to deal with her and her 'entitlement' issues.Ned Kelly wrote:Duh, boxy states the bleeding obvious......to everyone except mellie. Yes Boxy did state the obvious and it was the right answer - but that didn't occur to me either at the time. Kids these days do have a sense of entitlement and after a while we just take it for granted that they have to be rewarded for every little thing they do - to get them to do anything at all that is.If you want my opinion, you teach your kids to do the right thing because it is the right thing to do. Maybe we need to push Christianity a bit more in our schools. A generation ago we had it rammed down our throats daily until it became almost natural to be self sacrificing. Still you can get a great deal of pleasure doing something nice for someone just for the sake of doing it.
It's a bit different to dealing with the CEO of a large corporation though. He might not look at the action of Mel's son as actually doing the company a favour and it could backfire, but then we don't know the full details - so can't judge at this stage. I'm surprised Mel's son managed to get through to him in the first place - that alone would have been a dificult feat.

It is still up to the parents to set standards, not the kids' teachers or friends.mantra wrote:

You ARE joking, aren't you? Parents decide whether their kids go to a Catholic (or other Private Church school) or not. When did Government Schools last have "religious instruction" as part of the curriculum? I mean to say, little Primary school kids can't even have a Christmas tree these days, might offend some kid in the school.

My son notified the company and authorities as soon as he had enough evidence to deal with the crooks in question.mantra wrote:Yes Boxy did state the obvious and it was the right answer - but that didn't occur to me either at the time. He did this without even telling me the smart little bugger, told me after he had spoken with the CEO who contacted him after my son had emailed him via the company site.
Trust me when I tell you, the outcome has been positive, will my son go to court? Well, we hope so,*fingers crossed* but this depends on a couple of variables (beyond our control)...though the important thing is, the crooks were stopped in their tracks, this and cant sell what they stole, because the keys have been changed.

Big Pop even called from interstate to congratulate him after school today, and big-pop doesn't hand out compliments readily.
