The main premise is a bit premature (it will be ages before our sun starts to "die"), but it is set early, and stuck with throughout the film (and who really knows what we don't know, after all?). It is, however a good depiction of the types of decisions we will be forced to make, sooner or later, as a species... and our need to rely on individuals, with all their frailties, to enact overwhelming missions, at all costs.

It will probably be then and only then that we have the whole world working together on a common goal. It is a pity we have to wait until we are nearly extinct for us to come together as one.

It has a quality cast and is consequently well acted but the plot is a bit, shall we say, long on fiction and short on science. :|

It takes liberties, that's for sure, to keep it relevant and accessable to a wide audience, but stays pretty true to the original premise, and allows for a continuation of that suspension of disbelief. The only piece that stood out at the time, was the sudden gravity return as atmosphere was added to an airlock. While more freefall during the flight might have added to the reality, it definitely detracts from your ability to concentrate on the other plotlines.

Yeah... so, not a doco, and I appreciate the chance to see such long term problems being considered in art/media.

Saw it last night. Thanks for the recommendation. I knew there must be someone still alive on Icarus I! What was that track playing during the credits?

I think it's "Avenue Of Hope", by "I Am Kloot". I put the lyrics up earlier in the thread. There's a good youtube, if you search the name, plus shunshine (but it does show a fair bit of the film). Wouldn't be surprised if it was written especially for the film.

Did Boxy just write the word "hope"?

Fuck I need glasses.

No, boxy copy'n'pasted that word :P

But it really is what the film is all about.... what all good SF is about. Human reactions to extreme situations, and out of the ordinary moral dilemas.

Who will you become, under such circumstances?

Would you embrase the void, or cling to your humanity? Or any of the countless choices between?

Nice tune but that wasn't it. This was hard and fast.

Boxy, I have been embracing the void my entire life, and the void keeps kicking me out.
