They're not being culled out of necessity because they're either a pest or needed for food. The Japanese have lied from the very beginning about their reasons for killing whales. Eliminate the pest or essential food factor and we're left with a blood sport.
You think the IUCN hasn't made up their mind yet? I think you are making another mistake mantra
All I could find on the site was a comment that Minke whales are sighted more often than other whales. If you've got a link stating that they are in abundance and they have to be killed to keep the numbers down - please supply it. If Minke whales are prolific breeders why are they protected? There has to be a reason for this and you can only conclude it's because there is uncertainty over their numbers.

I suppose you want to dictate to everyone what "essential food" is now?
What a despicable little nazi you are

Another little temper tantrum IQ. You're beginning to sound like someone else.
Of course I'd like to dictate to everyone what essential food should be - but that's impossible. I can still say what I believe though.

AUSTRALIAN CUSTOMS PHOTOS MISLEAD THE PUBLIC WRONGLY
http://www.icrwhale.net/news/australian ... the-public
The Director General of the IDWR, Mr Morisu Minoru said that "the photographs taken by the ship and which major Australian newspapers published today shows two minke whales, but they are not a mother and her calf as claimed by the media. It is clear from the picture that they are only friends, or at worst, distant relatives." "Also, if you look closely, you will see that the are not really dead, but are just resting," he added. "We have discovered through our extremely scientific and world-leading research that these whales are excellent at feigning death."

And I believe you are a despicable little nazi. Which is not only not impossible, it is highly plausible.
Whales and other meat cannot be classified by your ilk as either essential or non-essential food for someone else, yet you label whale hunting as 'sport hunting' because you classify them as non-essential food ergo, you are full of shit.
Typical eastern states latte green. Thinks that food is born in plastic containers

I haven't eaten a brussel sprout in decades now... that indicates that they arn't an "essential food"... anyone harvesting them is doing so for sport...

I am assuming that if I decide to combat these murdering arseholes of brussell sprouts by ramming my car into their harvesters, I can expect the Leftwing govts to roll out the red carpet for us and house my car which I will christen the Steep Derwin so I can charge admission fees to view my magnificent protector of the sprouts and claim tax exempt status?

Thanks HB - that was a good site. Although it says the Minke whale numbers are healthy, little is known about their breeding habits, but they are an essential part of the marine eco system.

Do you think by using the word "harvest" we can throw whales into the same category as a vegetable?
It's unfortunate that there are so many people in this world who just can't appreciate the beauty and intelligence of this great mammal, but it's no surprise that you and IQ would liken them to brussel sprouts. Their future is uncertain anyway with the widespread sonic blasting for oil & gas, fish stocks rapidly depleting and the toxicity of our oceans generally - whaling is just hastening the process.
