Hey, this is bad. Thanks for drawing to our attention. I have a friend in Kaiapoi, just above Christchurch and last time (September 2010)they felt it but only lost a couple of "heirlooms" (dust collectors that broke). The scary thing is that this "seismic activity" could eventuate here in Oz. We have had some decent earthquakes here and some rumbles and shakes every so often. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earthquakes_in_Australia

Shocker. Just heard it on the news driving to work here in UK.
Quake toll soars: 65 confirmed dead. Death toll in the earthquake which devastated Christchurch stands confirmed at 65 but is likely to rise, say authorities
A steeple of a church has fallen down that has survived many a quake before.

Disasters will always occur and with the popultation growing still I guess there will be a lose of life anytime the Earth rumbles.
Always remember what you post, send or do on the internet is not private and you are responsible.

The US of A is almost bought out by the Republic of CHINA. Stop worrying about what the WEATHER is doing.

My biggest concern is that Gillard has NO idea. She is probably more worried about her periods than anything else at the moment. Mister Tim is an expert on female periods and so forth?

Shit happens. There is absolutely nothing we can do.

Christchurch is apparently on a fault line and it's believed that this is only the first quake and a bigger one is on the horizon. There is even talk that the area is too unstable to consider rebuilding.

Noticed a headline while logging in ... 75 dead, 300 missing, and another stating 1 Australian dead.

NZ is full of fault lines and on the very edge of out tectonic plate, plus on the end of the Ring of Fire (volcanoes) so seismic rumbles are common place (like Japan).

An older Kiwi woman I know said when she was a kid (50s or 60s) a huge crack in the ground opened up, a little girl fell into the gap, then the Earth closed back up, swallowing the little girl.

Do these warning earthquake warning systems work?

Still a bit experimental from what I've read.

This is the inevitable result of jumping and dancing up and down with flaying tongues and tattoos on a fault line.

I warned them.
