Yes it has, which gives the deniers more time to continue with their polluting industries. Unfortunately the alarmists haven't helped their cause with either dodgy statistics or presenting genuine statistics which haven't been around long enough to prove that man is contributing towards global warming. You can't say "this is the hottest day NSW has experienced since 1929" and expect people to believe this is caused through greenhouse gases.AiA in Atlanta wrote:Climate change has been spun into a wild left-wing conspiracy theory ...
The whole argument has been wrong from the beginning. Both sides have exaggerated and as a consequence we've reached a stalemate.

Is really like this. "The whole argument has been wrong from the beginning. Both sides have exaggerated and as a consequence we've reached a stalemate"
I am a believer that humanity is change the climate and we will end up with a significant global warming event that was preventable if the world took uniform action. It is not in our nature to do so until it is too late. The arguments remind me of the "cigarette cause lung cancer" defbate. The prove was anedotal to begin with and it left lot's of room for the pro-smoking lobby to prevent any change for years. People had to die for years before there was enough proof, overwelhming proof before anyone would act. this will be the same.
Pity really because it is my duagther who will have to live with the concequences... not me personally.

SN - those of us who do have children worry about their future on an unstable planet and that's why I think the political party who takes this debate a little more seriously and errs on the side of probability will end up the winner.Super Nova wrote: Is really like this. We just don't know, but as with the "lung cancer" argument, we have to take some preventative action. A carbon tax is not to the liking of many - who wants to pay more taxes, but at least it will help curtail emissions somewhat. How much - who knows? I heard Julia Gillard talking about an ETS being introduced by 2015 also. Rather than brushing it aside completely, at least it's still being given serious consideration and I think generally Australians would prefer that.

HB,
When you come back do you want to pick a topic for us to take opposing sides on?

Sorta mentioned that in ...AiA in Atlanta wrote:Second oddly cold winter in a row in North America ... in fact, it is colder here than it is in the Arctic region.
Arctic Defrost Dumping Snow on U.S. and Europe
http://ipsnews.net/news.asp?idnews=54278
That extra heat in the ocean is gradually released into the lower atmosphere from October to January as the region slowly re-freezes months later than normal. This is a fundamental change - a large part of the Arctic Ocean is radiating heat instead of being cold and ice-covered. That has disrupted wind circulation patterns in the northern hemisphere, reported Overland and other researchers at the International Polar Year Oslo Science Conference in Norway last June.
The result: the Arctic stays warm and mid-latitude regions become colder and receive more snow for much of the winter. Last December was the coldest south Florida has experienced in more than a century of record-keeping.
According to Chomsky 1/3rd of Americans believe GW/CC is a hoax, and he agrees with my prognostications that the situation is far worse and more advanced than any of the so called experts have been willing to admit.AiA in Atlanta wrote: Climate change has been spun into a wild left-wing conspiracy theory ...

A third of Americans think Australia is located in Europe and that Saddam flew one of the planes into the Twin Towers. They also think GWB was a saint and Obama is a Muslim and that they will go to Heaven when they die and praying will get them what they wish for.According to Chomsky 1/3rd of Americans believe GW/CC is a hoax, and he agrees with my prognostications that the situation is far worse and more advanced than any of the so called experts have been willing to admit.
Quoting what a third of American thinks is no argument.

I was just trying to divert your attention to something one can prove, that most Americans are dingbats.Outlaw Yogi wrote:Are you deliberately missing the point or just a run of the mill dingbat?
As far as "climate change" is concerned .... yabber on all you like, it won't convince anyone with half a brain.
