Scientists ask Congress to put aside politics, take 'fresh look' at climate data
http://thehill.com/blogs/e2-wire/677-e2 ... te-science
The debate about climate change has become increasingly ideological and partisan. But climate change is not the product of a belief system or ideology. Instead, it is based on scientific fact, and no amount of argument, coercion, or debate among talking heads in the media can alter the physics of climate change.
Climate Change Deniers
Climate change deniers cloak themselves in scientific language, selectively critiquing aspects of mainstream climate science. Sometimes they present alternative hypotheses as an explanation of a particular point, as if the body of evidence were a house of cards standing or falling on one detail; but the edifice of climate science instead rests on a concrete foundation. As an open letter from 255 NAS members noted in the May 2010 Science magazine, no research results have produced any evidence that challenges the overall scientific understanding of what is happening to our planet’s climate and why.
The assertions of climate deniers therefore should not be given scientific weight equal to the comprehensive, peer-reviewed research presented by the vast majority of climate scientists.

I feel that the climate deniers are very similar to those that deny evolution. It is head in the sand and they use bad science to justify their position. The pity for the world is, that while the US sits on the pot, nothing with happen. I suspect things will need to get much worse before we act. However it could be too late then if we get to a run away greenhouse position.
It is time for a cull of the human race. Mother nature may want to do it earlier than we hoped.

Well I've been saying for years 'Mugsly and Dingbat can't get motivated until crisis is sitting at the kitchen table'.
I'm of the opinion that as frozen methane is already thawing and entering the atmosphere from tundra permafrosts and undersea floor clathrate deposits, we are already (3 years) past the tipping point into runaway global warming.

Outlaw.
It is also my understanding that the release of the frozen methane is going to be our bigest risk Once we hit the tipping point the methane will add another 5 degrees. The change will be rapid. a total of 10 degrees increase. Time to build big domes to house all of humanity.

Steamy enough as it is ATM, don't think I'd take to a Logan's run style bubble, probably prefer to dwell underground and become nocturnal.
Anyway, doom and gloom's on a roll ...
Mass tree deaths prompt fears of Amazon 'climate tipping point'
http://www.guardian.co.uk/environment/2 ... on-climate
Billions of trees died in the record drought that struck the Amazon in 2010, raising fears that the vast forest is on the verge of a tipping point, where it will stop absorbing greenhouse gas emissions and instead increase them.
The 2010 Amazonian drought led to the declaration of states-of-emergencies and the lowest ever level of the major tributary, the Rio Negro. Lewis, with colleagues in Brazil, examined satellite-derived rainfall measurements and found that the 2010 drought was even worse than the very severe 2005 drought, affecting a 60% wider area and with an even harsher dry season.
Applying the same principles to the 2010 drought, they estimated that 8.5 billion tonnes of CO2 will be released - more than the entire 7.7bn tonnes emitted in 2009 by China, the biggest polluting nation in the world. This estimate does not include forest fires, which release carbon and increase in dry years.
"The Amazon is such a big area that even a small shift [in conditions] there can have a global impact," said Lewis.
Lewis said that two such severe droughts in the Amazon within five years was highly unusual, but that a natural variation in climate over decade-long periods cannot yet be ruled out. The driving factor of the annual weather patterns is the warmth of the sea in the Atlantic. He said increasing droughts in the Amazon are found in some climate models, including the sophisticated model used by the Hadley centre. This means the 2005 and 2010 droughts are consistent with the idea that global warming will cause more droughts in future, emit more carbon, and potentially lead to runaway climate change. "The greenhouse gases we have already emitted may mean there are several more droughts in the pipeline," he said.

Antarctic Melting as Deep Ocean Heat Rises
http://news.discovery.com/earth/antarct ... 01214.html
Global warming is sneaky. For more than a century it has been hiding large amounts of excess heat in the world's deep seas. Now that heat is coming to the surface again in one of the worst possible places: Antarctica.

When you add the lack of scientific knowledge amongst the general public, it allows deniers and creationists a foot in the door.
The Mayans predicted the end of the world in December 2012, but they didn't see the Spanish coming

True. Most people are not interested in asking the why question and looking hard at the answers they get back.
Why are we here? God made me that is why an am here.
What is our purpose? What ever God wants me to do.
What is our place in the universe? What ever gos wants.
Is there a god? yes, he is the one that answers all my questions.
It is a laugh. I have read recently that there could be a god gene and those who believe multiply faster than those that do not. The world is heading for disaster. 90% god botherers and a f..ked up planet because that is what god wants. The end is nye. Loo kat al lthe birds and fish that dies in the US recently. Clearly as sign.

Second oddly cold winter in a row in North America ... in fact, it is colder here than it is in the Arctic region.

Yes, As predicted more extreme weather events not just warmer everywhere. Average temp has risen.
