Not quite the matrix or borg, but maybe a touch of skynet ... whatever the case, the bots are in control of the stock market poker machines, and you can't argue with a bot.

They're obviously not doing any worse in their projections than real life humans. The average investment advisor - if the last decade is anything to go by, doesn't care or doesn't know what he/she is doing.Lexicon packages the news in a way that its robo-clients can understand. It scans every Dow Jones story in real time, looking for textual clues that might indicate how investors should feel about a stock. It then sends that information in machine-readable form to its algorithmic subscribers, which can parse it further, using the resulting data to inform their own investing decisions. Lexicon has helped automate the process of reading the news, drawing insight from it, and using that information to buy or sell a stock. The machines aren't there just to crunch numbers anymore; they're now making the decisions.
The robot nurses are more scary though - imagine having one of these things tending to you if it was malfunctioning. Technology is making us humans redundant.
Robots providing day care and nursing services will be in Japanese households in five years' time, a government panel said Wednesday.
Based on the projection, the government and the private sector will accelerate their efforts to formulate common safety standards for nurse robots in the years ahead, industry ministry officials said.
To create a new robot market, the officials said it is essential that a neutral third party establish safety standards.

Well I'd heard of Mr Robbit, the robot easter bunny ..
... but a robot nurse?
Nurse Android might be OK ... so long as she's not into fire hose enemas ...

While I agree, that technology is making us redundant (as anything but consumers)... why is a robot nurse scarier than a human?mantra wrote:The robot nurses are more scary though - imagine having one of these things tending to you if it was malfunctioning. Technology is making us humans redundant.
You do realise that there are a significant proportion of humans who are fucked in the head... right?
Hell, at least a robot would be less likely to be a sadistic fluffy bunny, about their malfunction

I'm much more worried about what robot warriors will mean for us.

You've got a point there. A psycho nurse wouldn't be too pleasant to deal with either. It's best not to get sick and if you do - stay away from hospitals. They're becoming increasingly dangerous in NSW with a huge number of patients dying through drug resistant viruses and infections caused by dirty hands.boxy wrote:While I agree, that technology is making us redundant (as anything but consumers)... why is a robot nurse scarier than a human?mantra wrote:The robot nurses are more scary though - imagine having one of these things tending to you if it was malfunctioning. A great part of staying healthy is remembering to wash hands after visiting the loo and b4 preparing food or eating. Not smoking and not drinking two boxes of fortified wine everyday helps too.
As a kid in Holland the polio epidemic was raging and I heard over the radio about washing your hands after the toilet. That stays with me to this day, quite fanatic about washing hands after going to the loo whether for number one or number two.
Of course, also heard the coverage of the Hungarian uprising and its defeat by the Russians—the deciding factor I think in Dad wanting to emmigrate, he had spent four years of his life in forced labor for the Germans, didn’t want to have to do that for the Russians I guess.

They're good places to stay away from, yeah, but if you're sick enough to need hospital, you're still far better off going, than staying away because you're scared of golden staph.mantra wrote:It's best not to get sick and if you do - stay away from hospitals.
