Actually, the Puritan movement, Protestantism in general lead to the scientific/industrial revolution and so to the developed world. Before that the Renaissance laid the groundwork.

Romans more civilised than the Greeks???

Puritans burnt down the original Globe theatre because they reckoned Shakespreare's plays were blasphemous, then skipped England for America 'coz the Brit's king was going to cleanse his nation of them. They were as extremist as the Taliban is today.

And there writes a man ignorant of History.

The scientific movement in Europe began with the Catholics during the Renaissance. Galileo Galilee was Catholic. Nicolaus Copernicus was Catholic. Neither man disputed the existence of God or the true church of God.

Most Greek cities were more civilised than Rome, with the obvious exception being Sparta. Sparta and Rome founded their civilizations on war. Their growth and development depended upon war. Romans greatly admired the Greeks and in particular the Athenian civilization and took much from it to make their own and in some cases improving upon that... but not in Philosophy, Art, Theatre, Poetry or Sculpture... in those things, they merely copied.

No, they believe in Xenu.

Scientology is an interesting social study on how far we have progressed. It's quite sobering to think that we still have a significant number of people who are gullible enough to buy such a crock of shit, even in this day and age, without the "church" having the advantage of parental indocrination to kick start it.

We've advanced little, intellectually, since goat herding was the backbone of industrialisation.
