It cannot be proved logically.

Grab yourseelf five apples. Separate them into a group of two and a group of three. Call the group of two "a" and call the group of three "b".

Next, add a to b. How many apples do you have?

Separate them again.

Then add b to a. How many do you have now?

This also works with other fruit. There's your proof. :)
Wrong. 5 apples = (a+a+a+a+a)

The mathematical axiom is (a+b=b+a)

You keep saying it like it's actually so

It actually is... do you want a link to prove that the foundation axioms of mathematics are assumed and so have no prove to prove them... that is believed on faith?

Classic Science's Answer to Basic Questions:
How did the Big Bang happen?
Unknown
What was the Big Bang?
Unknown
What, if anything, existed before the Big Bang?
Unknown
What is the nature of dark energy, the dominant entity of the cosmos?
Unknown
What is the nature of dark matter, the second most prevalent entity?
Unknown
How did life arise?
Unknown
How did consciousness arise?
Unknown
What is the nature of consciousness?
Unknown
What is the fate of the universe; for example, will it keep expanding?
Unknown
Why are the constants the way they are?
Unknown
Why are there exactly four forces?
Unknown
Is life further experienced after the body dies?
Unknown

Does science answer these questions better than religion?

*sigh*

Let's hope that, for your sake, you are being deliberately obtuse.

Let's try again.

"a" is an apple and "b" is an orange.

Put "a" plus "b" into a bowl. What do you have?

Now put "b" plus "a" into the bowl. What do you have now?

Basic questions? Shirley you can't be serious. These are some of the most profound questions of all.

As for whether science or religion better answers them, that depends on whether or not you value honesty and truth.

Science answers these questions honestly, religion lies.

Science explains what it can, limited by the available evidence and by our own intellects, and is always open to new data. Religion makes shit up.

I value honesty. Even if it doesn't flatter me. Even if it doesn't soothe my fears. The truth is a beautiful thing because it's real. Religion is a bucket of dogshit designed for, and by, cowards.

Nope sorry... that does not work either.

All you are doing is (2a+2b=2b+2a)

Look, mathematicians have tried and tried to validate their axioms and they can't. What the fuck makes you think that you can do what the mathematician can't?

The example I have given is not of my own creation, I took it from a maths site which was talking about basic assumptions in maths.

You know what is really freaky... if you look into it, every branch of mathematics starts with axioms that must be taken as true without proof.

You think your science is soooo special for being most accurate and yet it too relies of mathematics which cannot be proven.

But what the hey... let's bitch about religion which cannot be proven and ignore all those other and often more significant beliefs which equally cannot be proven.

Sure it does. Look in the bowl. The shit's the same, both times. QED.

No, I'm doing 1a + 1b. One apple, one orange. Remember?

I am abnormally gifted in the area of mathematics. I can extract the square root of any integer, to an accuracy of two decimal places, in my head! Fear my bulbous brane. 8-)

x+(y+z) = (x+y) +z

can you do it with this? It represents another axiom in maths.

x(y+z) = xy+yz

and this one?

0+x = x

am so looking forward to you explaining away the zero with your apples...

LOL... you guys are hilarious.

"An axiom is a well-formed formula that is stipulated rather than proved to be so through the application of rules
of inference. The axioms and the rules of inference jointly provide a basis for proving all other
theorems. As different sets of axioms may generate the same set of theorems, there may be many
alternative axiomatizations of the formal system
."

Nelson’s Dictionary of Mathematics (2nd ed.)

God is a stipulation rather than a proof in the explanation of how the universe became. In this, it has a lot in common with maths... just theory and nothing more... but tends to work well for those who would believe in it.
