I don't care if GM crops shit out gold. My point is that every country has its own restrictions on certain products. You can't criticise Australia for doing what Japan does and that is reflect the will of the people when it comes to trade. Most Australians don't want the sale of whale meat to be legal.
Nothing sustainable about hunting endangered whales. If they only hunted populous whale species, then I wouldn't have a problem but they are targeting many endangered species. Hunting blue whales, fin whales, sei whales and humpback whales should simply not be occurring.

Now you are entering the realm of the leftist fuckwad
The will of the people in Australia say we don't eat or hunt whales. Are you saying that the will of the people in other countries should be imposed on ourselves?
Long story short....eat the slimy fucks if you want to. No one tells me what I can and cant eat
You brought up the GM issue. I didn't see the relevance but was quite able to refute your point anyway in relation to the subject.I don't care if GM crops shit out gold. IWC says you are wrong. Look it up before you start sprouting Mantraesque bulldust.Nothing sustainable about hunting endangered whales. If they only hunted populous whale species, then I wouldn't have a problem but they are targeting many endangered species.

Ethnic has answered this much better than I can. We have reached a stage in our global over population that we have to stop killing everything just for the sake of "tradition" or "sport". Whales are not a finite resource. They are also beautiful creatures which most people take a great deal of pleasure from. Why not attempt to preserve them while we can? There may come a day when we will have to rely on them for food. At present we are consuming more than we need and more than we're producing and just because we're not suffering as a consequence, doesn't mean other nations aren't. Famine hasn't hit us yet - but it's possible it will one day.So we should ban the harvest of any animal that is not essential? You are not capable of proving any single animal is essential food for Australians. And since when do the Japanese have to prove to you that it is essential for them to eat in order to get your approval to eat? How would you react if someone pulled a stunt like that on you?
The Japanese needed the meat during the last war when they were starving. This can no longer be justified - especially when they're taking it from our territory. This government needs to stay strong, not do another backflip and continue to fight them on this issue.
You can't debate logically with a hunter and FD you are in the minority on this subject. Not everything that moves should be considered prey.

Dear God...Mantra saying someone can't debate logically? Where's that black kettle...
Your above diatribe is nothing more than motherhood statements and bullshit Mantra. Don't eat them because they are beautiful??? What sort of fucking garbage is that?

Ethnic:
Mantra:
Strawman. How about "food"?
Copout. Are you saying that it is OK to unjustly ban something if you can go overseas and do it?You're free to go to Japan and enjoy a nice slab of whale meat.
No we should not.No I mean shall we lecture Japan for restricting free trade because they will not accept GM crop imports?
Mantra:
We have reached a stage in our global over population that we have to stop killing everything just for the sake of "tradition" or "sport".
Strawman. How about "food"?
You think they are infinite?Whales are not a finite resource.
How exactly to most people take pleasure from them? Perhaps you are confusing whales and dogs. They are also beautiful creatures which most people take a great deal of pleasure from.
Preserving them and eating them are not mutually exclusive. Why not attempt to preserve them while we can?
Like if the Indians decide to ban us from eating beef because it is a taboo for them and we have created an internation precedent of banning based on nothing more than a taboo? There may come a day when we will have to rely on them for food.
Crap. Where is the extra coming from?At present we are consuming more than we need and more than we're producing
The Japs were starving last year? The Japanese needed the meat during the last war when they were starving.
But it isn't any more our territory than the moon is. Don't believe everything Paul Watson says. This can no longer be justified - especially when they're taking it from our territory.
Why not? Because you lose? Can you argue logically with a woman? You can't debate logically with a hunter
Argumentum ad populum is a logical fallacy. Besides, I think you'll find I am in the majority. It is only a small number of the global wealthy elite who support this.and FD you are in the minority on this subject
Re: Liebors duplicity exposed on whaling
Is that what you do when your argument starts to crumble? You make dopey insults?freediver wrote:Can you argue logically with a woman?
Argue and stomp your feet all you want freediver. The ban on whaling and whale products is in place because the majority of Australians don't support whaling. If big business thought there was a market for whale meat, Gerry Harvey would be annoying the government about it. There is no campaign because the majority don't want whale products. The majority rules. Sorry if it hurts your precious feelings.

You did? You did a lousy job.IQS.RLOW wrote:You brought up the GM issue. I didn't see the relevance but was quite able to refute your point anyway in relation to the subject.
The free market in Japan states that whale meat is in low demand. They are overkilling because of taxpayer funding. Surely you'd be against that. You kicked up a fuss over Rudd's stimulus spending.IQS.RLOW wrote:The will of the people in Australia say we don't eat or hunt whales. Err, Japan hunt Sei whales which are endangered. The Japanese admit that.IQS.RLOW wrote:IWC says you are wrong. Look it up before you start sprouting Mantraesque bulldust.

Actually, I've been watching this sexist attitude which sees men think themselves superior... it is common and ingrained.Ethnic wrote:Is that what you do when your argument starts to crumble? You make dopey insults?freediver wrote:Can you argue logically with a woman?

Re: Liebors duplicity exposed on whaling
That was an obvious error on my part - it should have read 'whales are a finite resource'.You think they are infinite?
I was referring to WWII - I wasn't specific enough for you.The Japs were starving last year?
If we were producing enough to adequately meet our needs - we wouldn't need to import from third world nations. Our farms are being bought up by foreign nationals/corporations and if we have further major disasters here - or overseas, the foreign owned farms certainly won't be putting us first on the list for a feed. We need to preserve what is ours to be sustainable for future generations. At present allowing the Japanese to encroach within our boundaries to inhumanely slaughter such a magnificent creature is abhorrent. The Japanese are now enforcing strict boundaries around their resources to disallow intruders so why shouldn't we exercise protectionism here also. Are we so weak we have to give into every nation's whims?Crap. Where is the extra coming from?At present we are consuming more than we need and more than we're producing
Funny how most of your posts indicate your support for whaling.Besides, I think you'll find I am in the majority. It is only a small number of the global wealthy elite who support this.
I don't see much of it in younger men, but it is certainly a blatantly obvious characteristic in some of those more mature males who should know better.Actually, I've been watching this sexist attitude which sees men think themselves superior... it is common and ingrained.
Re: Liebors duplicity exposed on whaling
Well actually (about 2 years ago) some northern Indians (I suspect Muslims) were (or still are) selling Indian beef as Australian beef to other countries, don't know if OZ trade authorities have had it abated yet.freediver wrote: Like if the Indians decide to ban us from eating beef because it is a taboo for them and we have created an internation precedent of banning based on nothing more than a taboo?

A mate in Sydney is the son of a fisher in Taz, according to him Jap supertrawlers often fish within our 12 mile exclusion zone, so he shoots at them with a .303. He always gets away with it as the Japs don't report being shot at, because they know they're not allowed to fish there.
