Again, need the NBN to transmit this to home (or to a pub to play on big screen etc—different licence obviously!) then how you distribute it (to TV, to computer or computers) doesn’t matter! Cat6 cable, wifi who cares? It is the NBN makes it possible!

Free WiFi internet access will be available at two inner-city council parks from next week.

Brisbane City Council will introduce WiFi hotspots at both New Farm Park and the City Botanic Gardens next Wednesday.

Transmitters will be located near the New Farm Park rotunda and at the Queensland University of Technology end of the gardens.

This is now also being trialled in Brisbane on rail and is proving to be very successful.

The days of being permanently chained to your desktop will die out when the last of the relics toddle off to their maker.

Meantime the [ALP] stands resolutely determined to cater for the antiques.

Ummmm how are all these wifi spots connected to the rest of the internet? By magic? By wires! Soon wifi will receive a huge speed boost in this country from the NBN!

THE independent MP Rob Oakeshott has revealed he may support the opposition's push to ensure consumers are protected under the national broadband network, adding to pressure on the government over the $43 billion project.

Mr Oakeshott also threatened to vote for a private member's bill from the opposition communications spokesman, Malcolm Turnbull, if the government fails to release the business plan before Parliament rises.

The pressure came as the government ignored a Senate motion demanding the government release a business case for the controversial project today.

Legislation that passed this week will exclude the network from some competition rules, but the proposal could face delays in the Senate, where it will need the support of the Greens and independents.

In a blow to the government's hopes of securing quick passage through the Senate, Mr Oakeshott said he may support moves by the independent senator Nick Xenophon to force further amendments.

Mr Oakeshott also praised Mr Turnbull's role in the debate, saying he could vote for the bill proposing a cost-benefit analysis of the network if the government failed to release its business case.

The Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, indicated the government would not release the business case until next month, after the year's final parliamentary sitting period. Mr Turnbull accused the government of trying to shield itself from proper scrutiny.

''It is increasingly plain how desperate Labor has become to shield the NBN from appropriate scrutiny - the government will say or do anything to obstruct transparency and avert independent analysis of the most expensive public infrastructure project in Australian history,'' he said.

Homeowners want to live in a suburb wired with the latest technology and surrounded by good restaurants more than they want access to good buses, trains or education facilities, a study by The Buzz Insurance claims.

A safe suburb is the most valued attribute of all, considered as "extremely" or "very" important by 95 per cent of the online survey of 957 Australians aged 25 to 64.

I was a public servant for just shy of 20 years, involved in procurement. Seen plenty of Top Secret, Secret, Confidential, Restricted, CiC and unclassified files. So yes, a lot of CiC stuff to be removed, Cabinet to consider etc.
