Time to lift Australia's image

Post by Super Nova » Mon Oct 18, 2010 11:32 pm

This is a sad article to read. We need to lift our image in the world. Look at the damage adds like fosters have done.
Simon Anhalt, adviser to numerous governments and editor of the journal Place Branding, said that Australia was seen as attractive but one-dimensional as a result of its failure to promote its culture, education and industry overseas.

The success of Australia's gaudy tourism advertisements, including the reviled 2007 Where the Bloody Hell Are You? campaign, had produced an "unbalanced" view of the country, he said.

On the positive side, Mr Anholt said that Australia was ranked top in the world for natural beauty and as a place to visit if money was no object.

He also said that the world saw China as a married man with a limp and said that France would be perfect "if it weren't for the French."

The comments seem to have hit a nerve in Australia. According to one poll, 76 per cent of people agreed with Mr Anhalt's summary.

However, Sydney's 2UE radio station proudly declared: "Well at least blondes have more fun that brunettes or rangas (redheads)."

But Mr Anhalt's description upset others. Among the responses on a news.com.au online forum was this from Ross of Sydney: "Yes – that's why we are a first-world country and that's why we have such a strong economy – because we are dumb. Fair dinkum, who is this twit and why are we even listening to him."

In Sydney to address a conference on international education, Mr Anhalt said that image of Australia as beautiful but superficial meant that bad news, including the spate of racist attacks on Indian students last year, could badly damage the national brand.

His comments were based on a survey of 26,000 people in 26 countries carried out by his public affairs company GfK Roper.

I do have to admit that some of the Aussie addsand the news in the UK make me cringe.

Aussie beer adds make us look stupid and chauvinist.
Our women are all beautiful but really blonde, tanned and stupid.
We are not a clever country, all we offer and beer, prawns on the BBQ and beaches.
We only export dirt.
We have a big country and don’t know what to do with it.
We treat our indigenous people appallingly.
We are racists.
We sink boat loads of refugees.
We are great at sport and little else.

Good now i have typed that.... maybe it is all true.......... arrrr.

It is amasing what you discover if you look at yourself through the eyes of others.

Yeah, those techy jobs in India will be able to be pumped down to Oz much faster, so the jobs that were here can now be exported...good job dipshit. As long as you have your IPTV and can twitterblog a few milliseconds faster, it all good huh?

Goodbye software/firmware designers. Goodbye industrial designers. Goodbye electronics designers.

Why do you hate the Australian worker so much Monk that you are willing to export their jobs so you can have a taxpayer subsidised internet connection?
You.
Selfish.
Fuck.
