An Melbourne biology teacher jailed for 13 years in Russia after being caught fighting for Ukraine has spoken out for the first time since his “sham” trial.
Oscar Jenkins explained why he joined Ukrainian forces in early 2024 during a recorded interview with a pro-Russia blogger at a prison in Luhansk.
“It felt like the right thing to do; if a country invades another country, why?” Mr Jenkins said, looking gaunt and wearing a green prison uniform.
“And if there’s not a good reason for that, like Taiwan, then that’s something that I should stand up for.
In a startling admission, Mr Jenkins said he also offered to fight for his captors.
“I’ve written a statement saying that I’d be happy to fight as a soldier for Russia,” he said.
“But if they don’t trust me or for whatever reason don’t want that, then I can understand.”

This guy is an idiot. He must fancy himself as a bit of a mercenary. An unpaid one.
