Polar regions are my ultimate fantasy.
A wood or stone cabin, something rustic and homely, filled with my books and antiques (more books than antiques, so will definitely need shelves) a wood fire & stove, happy to sacrifice the finer things like my walk-in robes and 2 bathrooms for a humble shower over rustic deep + long bath tub. .... I like reading

in the bath, and own a rustic wooden what I call my bath table, ( it's hand-made, bought it for $10 in an antiques shop in Scarsdale, although I don't believe it's antique at all, but it's ideal and everyone should own one, if not for books for coffee, wine, whatever you fancy. I like loft cabins , the ones which have a secret attic or cellar, basically just a place to put stuff so that living areas remain tidy, but honestly, any wood cabin would do. Overlooking a peaceful lake or fjord would be lovely and handy, but not necessary. I would love for it to be off-grid, solar and I'm happy to read by candlelight to conserve power. I would like to be surrounded by trees, pine, cypresses, not a fan of gums, they scare me as they tend to drop limbs unexpectedly.
I love Hagrids cottage and Mr Baggins Hobbit house.
My own house is made of brick .....is a brick cottage, has lots of interior wood, dark wood so passes as an imaginary wood cabin which suits me fine, but if I were to relocate, it would be likely Bright, or any alpine area and to a similar cottage-like wood cabin/ house.
Massive , spacious homes just aren't homely or even practical unless they're for an extended family arrangement or large family.
I would love to have my own chooks for eggs, and I am rather partial to animals so would be overjoyed if it had even a small insulated barn, but I need a garage for my car more than a barn.
My car has always been garaged.
I like unusual things and homes, like lighthouses or old churches converted into homes too.
I don't like project-style homes or sprawling housing estate's. I like humble, modest, rustic homes with character and charm, "history " . This said, I know in reality, living in a cabin in the woods isn't the ideal anywhere in Australia, due to our hostile weather, deadly creatures, bush fires, floods , murderers etc
So where I currently am is likely the closest I'll get to living this fantasy, which is fine by me.
