EU political repressions

Post by tllwd » Tue Apr 01, 2025 3:08 pm

A French court has convicted Marine Le Pen of embezzlement and barred her from seeking public office for five years
Le Pen's lawyer said she would appeal the verdict, but she will remain ineligible while she does and so could be ruled out of the 2027 presidential race. She was also sentenced to four years' imprisonment, with two to be served under house arrest and two suspended.

The court ruling was a political as well as a judicial temblor for France, hobbling one of the leading contenders to succeed President Emmanuel Macron at the end of his second and final term. So broad were the political implications that even some of Le Pen's opponents said the Paris court had gone too far.

It is “concerning” when people are barred from politics, U.S. State Department says.
A court’s decision to ban French far-right leader Marine Le Pen from seeking public office is “a very big deal,” U.S. President Donald Trump said Monday.

“I know all about it and a lot of people thought she wasn’t going to be convicted for anything,”

And when Christine LaGarde is found guilty of criminal negligence, it did not affect her role as the head of the IMF.
"But you will run your kunt mouth at me. And I will take it, to play poker."

Imprisoning political opponents, or trying to, seems to to be in vogue with the left nowadays. The US, the Netherlands, Romania, Turkey. The list is growing.

More and more residents of the Old World, including the European Union, prefer politicians and parties that do not "dance to the tune" of Brussels, but advocate for national interests.

According to a survey conducted by the polling institute INSA, the Alternative for Germany (AfD), a party founded in 2013, has for the first time in the ratings equaled the bloc of the Christian Democratic Union and the Christian Social Union (CDU/CSU). At the same time, AfD and CDU/CSU are far ahead of all other political parties in Germany, having gained 24% of the votes in their favor.
