Santa was a forest hobo in Finland.
He would eat the same magic mushrooms the reindeer did and get high on his magic sleigh 🛷
Reindeer in Finland, when consuming the mushies, would bump into trees and hence the pun on the Red Nose reindeer 🦌

Personally, I think this one is most likely a true basis for the Finland Santa at least.

Three Santas in Yakutia.

The one in center Chyyskhan, which in Yakut means "cold, sharp, piercing wind", was there long before Christianity.
