Re: My Word.........le
And remember, just because something is least likely, doesn't mean that it isn't. The setters could easily be clever enough to throw us a curve ball and provide a word that is atypical in terms of vowels, has silent letters or unusual formation. If the setters are cryptic crossword setters, then absolutely, it's very likely they'll throw curve balls, because their objective is to beat the wordler, not have us all getting the word on line 3 or 4.
Unless they're like Lovatts crossword compilers who deliberately create easier cryptic ( if you can call them cryptic) puzzels to keep people who are average solvers buying their crap puzzle books .
Not the NYT's , these guys create decent puzzles, so....

Lovatts. Crap puzzles with the promise of grand prizes lol

Total garbage, and nothing like the high standard NYTs puzzles.

At the end of the day there's an element of luck to it because there's often dozens of possibilities and it depends on what word the setter chooses.Bobby wrote: βWed Dec 18, 2024 6:36 pmmellie wrote: βWed Dec 18, 2024 4:08 pmGreat Job Bobby, I have to admit it, I'm actually enjoying wordle, this only took a few minutes, I'm getting the hang of them now, and what's especially good about these is that even if people try to cheat, they're not likely to do any better than they would have had they just used their own noggins, and why?
Because they're common regular words, and your guess is as good as any of the options a word engine could offer, if anything, a word finding generater would only serve to give you too many options, and words which all might fit but are obscure and wouldn't be used in the first place by the setter.

You're a genius to get that in 3 on your first go.
My goal is to get to a point wherby I constantly get row 3 or row 4, obviously preferably row 3.
I think we can do it Bobby, just need to figure out an algorithm re- least likely to most likely used letters with certain vowels. But again, this isn't bullet proof, but it's possible to consider what letters are more likely to be used with others.
For example. Consider what vowels are least likely to sit next to the letters " T H " The answer would obviously be "U" . Someone's likely figured out an algorithm formula or engine for wordle, but this still wouldn't guarantee the correct answer, would just indicate what words would statistically be most or least likely.
Unless these puzzles attract prizes, I doubt anyone would be nerdy enough to bother. ... they would just go by instinct like I do, and figure out what letters would most likely be in a line.

I did them both today, here's my lingle unfortunately, got 4th row. Now I'm getting the hang of it, obviously my goal is to get 3rd row
Naa, not genius, just persistent when it comes to puzzles, unless my child is demanding my attention, in which case, puzzles take a back seat

Re: My Word.........le
My favourites are cryptic crosswords,( starting to get back into them) and my favourite setter was Noel Jessop. He was by nature, witty, dry, down to earth, political, so when he'd set his grid, it was as though he was conveying hidden secrets, like a spy agent and so many were double entendres, had multiple meanings conveying different messages for different people, and were so amusing. I loved it when he'd take the piss out of me especially , but we all copped it, especially his solvers, amatures he was teaching, was all in the spirit if cruciverbalism and good fun. I used to return the favour and set a few of my own, often in response to his remarks to me.
He would have been a wonderful grandfather, bet his grand kids loved him.
David Astle, (DA)
David Stickly ( DS) Stickler
And a number of others who were learning the ropes too.
Then there were those who were aspiring to become setters themselves. There was a lady, can't remember her name who was quite good too.
Her name will come to me, just need to think about it.
Beverley I think it was.
She was a bit of an all-rounder, set a variety of different puzzles.
I don't think we had wordle back then, I learnt of this puzzle here from you Bobby.
At first glance it looked rather simple, so I didn't give it a crack until you encouraged me to.
Glad u did, thanks again, and hopefully we'll be cracking them on the 2nd or 3rd rows one day soon.

Hey Bobby,
I just found this site, not sure if like the two you've posted if it allows us to post a link to our results.
Some of these look very interesting, I am particularly interested in the crosswordle.
I'll let you know what I think of it. It's based in the UK, so this is a good start. Best cryptics are from British papers.

Omgosh, well done yourself.
See, it's about determination, don't give up and use any old letters just to get it done.
