I love stories like that!Jasin wrote: ↑Fri Dec 13, 2024 5:50 pm2023 I got to know àn elderly gentleman who was 100 years old. The proof was in his driving licence!
Yep, he was still motoring along in life as if he had just retired. Nothing more than a walking stick.
He even had his driving licence renewed at 101 years of age this year.
He was a Merchant vessel Captain (also involved in WW2) who travelled the world.
I asked him what his secret to longevity was?
He answered "Marry a French woman" with a smile.
Sadly in April he just got tired, so to speak and for someone who has raised the bat for a century, he decided to pull up stumps and go to where his dreams took him.
It was a pleasure to have known him for 6 months
Funny you mention 100 plus year old… I just came back from my bi annual check with my RA specialist… had a bone density scan done too.
He said I’m at the early stages from osteoporosis but don’t need medication yet… then cheekily says… maybe at 85?
Then I said how lately I notice a lot of elderly about 100 or older… all still with it and how amazed I am of them…
Then we discussed it could be less stress or simpler lives…simpler food.
And funny I was thinking on drive home… what I would like on my headstone, or maybe a something smaller fit cremation….”It doesn’t matter what you do, or aquire in life, what matters is how you live your life”
Anyway… Friday the 13th today….
Got home… got a call from one of very few friends in my life (I only have about 5 close female friends) her son had a car accident today. The other car he had bought off his estranged dad… (a mechanic) and it was going terribly… he told his dad and the lad spent 2,000 and it came back worse… finds out his dad used a first year apprentice to fix it as it was cheaper.
This young lad and his partner just had a baby so finances are really low… he’s really down … we said to bring the car here so hubby (a mechanic) will put on hoist and go over the car.
Plus we have a fridge/freezer full of food we are giving him (all comes from hubby’s workplace)
Sad thing his mum tells me is that her son wants to be closer to his dad… and rips him off like this!
Makes me so cross!
So if ever anyone comes in your life path and needs a helping hand… reach out.
Don’t wait for them to ask… they may be so down and out with suicide in mind.
