Today spotted corella flock eating picking seeds from cones on cypress pines, I don't remember seeing them around here before fires.

@Mellie
That reminded me exactly what happened to you is what happened to me when I was 13 back in the 60s.
And in Qld too!
I’m standing facing away from the water, in ankle deep water like “little miss self conscious what I looked like”…when a big wave whacked me from behind and I was rolling … then it stopped and I was so embarrassed! :OMG

Since then I watch the waves!

Re: cardboard boxes… here’s a trick…. If you are on fb market place…. Offer something for free… but in condition they take the cardboard.
It happened earlier this year… I got 3 black bar stools free and he said if I didn’t take cardboard boxes he’d be upset.
I assured him we would and we did.
Can definitely relate.
I am not a fan of surf, I have had too many quirky incidents whereby things were lurking underneath, again, in QLD, Sunshine Coast, be it giant stingrays under foot ( yuck) , sea tortoises and on one occasion in relatively calm waters ( Point Cartwright) a bloody hammerhead shark whereby I was almost skin 2 skin with it, and there's my poor Dad again screaming at me from above the water up on the rocks waving and jumping " get out , get out" I remember seeing something in my peripheral vision and thinking to myself it was just Dad, we had both entered the water snorkelling and spear fishing together at same time ..... long story short, my father will tell you to this day that I literally walked upon water to get out 😆..... hammers aren't an aggressive shark, could have been much worse, a tiger, a bullshark, I don't think a hammerheads actually ever killed anyone, but it certainly scared the heck out of us both. We called it a morning after that, and went home without our catch.
I still adore snorkelling, but I am not really a surf fan, like yourself, I'm happy to watch, admire the view, and when I take the kids, my youngest & my grandaughter to the beach, we just paddle at knee depths and build sand castles.
I have taught my daughter how to snorkel in a pool, and she's been snorkelling in shallow waters but as for going to the places Dad and I used to go to spear fish, naaaaaa, best to find a nice fish and chip shop. Too dangerous, my father's a bit of a daredevil lol . I'm a little more cautious and no way would I even consider taking my kids to remote unpatrolled beaches. But we had so much fun. Wonderful memories.

Thanks 4 tip re- boxes, I will mow my lawn today and then pop them out the front for anyone who wants them. Free on fb marketplace. They're strange shaped boxes, huge, wide and flat + some tall and narrow ( bunks , desk, mirror) so aren't really suitable for people wanting regular square boxes for moving.

But we can only give it a try.

Thanks lovely, I appreciate it.

🙂

Ps- Dad once took us ( myself and two step sisters) to another interesting QLD beach, not patrolled or was closed perhaps, anyway, all three of us ended up on an entirely different beach in another suburb...... he actually had to drive his vehicle to the beach to pick us up, and must have had some clue as to where we'd wash up. 😆

We weren't really aware that we were in a rip, we were just suddenly aware that we couldn't identify any landmarks or our parents & beach umbrella when we looked up.
No dangerous under current or anything, so not really a dangerous rip. Just a worm- hole to a different place, beach and time , it's what it felt like.😄
I remember us getting into trouble a little because Dad told us to be mindful of the current and stay in front of where my step mother was sitting on the beach. He was off spear fishing nearby.
Anyway, we were all packed up into the Nissan Patrol and had to leave. Lol
We made sure we were always in sight at beach after that.

Sophia,

What is it with QLD beaches for heaven's sakes seriously.

I think it was more of a case of Dad wanting to find a location suitable for swimming and spear fishing..... because my step sisters weren't into snorkelling or spear fishing. So we'd have to find some quirky hybrid beach suitable for a variety of activities and not crowded. My stepmother didn't want to have to canvass a thousand heads to keep track of 3 kids. Don't blame her. Not a fan of crowded beaches myself.

Queensland has more beach weather so therefore more time spent at those surf beaches ….
I’m not a swimmer so I’m not as adventurous as you!
I had my kids learn to swim from young… only to find I’m standing at water’s edge at any beach watching them like a hawk!
And we have a lot of drownings in Vic open surf beaches … sadly… and many that go fishing from rocks get swept away with big freak waves.

True, there is quite a few drownings down here, especially down the bottom on the open surf.

It's why I go in with the kids, as u know, the situation can change very quickly, calm waters one minute with a slight swell, bloody tsunami or freak wave the next. 😆

I am comfortable safety wise swimming in surf, grew up with it, but always know there's that possibility of there being something beneath the surface, hard to see when the waters choppy or foamy.
I'm more of an aquatic centre swimmer these days.

I love hyking and am looking forward to getting back into it slowly now that I am responding well to RA meds.

Pools are a lot better these days. Not as heavily chlorinated.
I have pools just 50 metres away. No need to drive or find parking. Finally blessed. The beaches are just 5 min drive away.

I still get chlorine headaches at indoor aquatic centres, but it's just a mild one, it triggers sinusitis I think, not a deal breaker, just use beconaise and it goes away.

Looks as though your GP, or other treating professional ie, OT, physio, or other specialist has recommended you for annual medical assessments now. If you have a diagnosed health problem that could impair your driving, professionals are professionally and legally required to notify authority. Say for example you've had a recent OT assessment and have advised OT that you still drive, they must notify authority because if they don't, and you suddenly have some sort of medical episode which results in a serious accident, then they're in strife for not notifying authorities. It's more about insurance than saving lives, and insurance companies are always looking for a way out of coughing up $$$ and the state government has a responsibility to ensure they don't issue licences to people at risk of harming themselves or others. Or else they are liable! $$$$

,

Bummer 😳.... hopefully you'll be right, there's a couple of different types, the self assessment and the driving assessment from what I've read.

Which one are they requesting?

Meanwhile, they continue to issue DUI and drug driving conditional licences to morons like Patrick Stephenson so they can apparently still drive to and from work.....killing joggers along the way whilst trying to avoid police detection tearing through a forest.

I know of someone, a guy in his 30s who's lost his licence so many times over the last few years due to the points system, yet they continue giving him a conditional licence for work. I'm talking 5 times in the space of 5 years or so.

Hopefully you'll be right, but you may have to do them annually from now on, which is a pain in the but, especially if it's an actual driving assessment.

You don't have to pay for it though, according to what I read above.

2023 I got to know àn elderly gentleman who was 100 years old. The proof was in his driving licence! 😲
Yep, he was still motoring along in life as if he had just retired. Nothing more than a walking stick.
He even had his driving licence renewed at 101 years of age this year.
He was a Merchant vessel Captain (also involved in WW2) who travelled the world.
I asked him what his secret to longevity was?
He answered "Marry a French woman" with a smile.
Sadly in April he just got tired, so to speak and for someone who has raised the bat for a century, he decided to pull up stumps and go to where his dreams took him.
It was a pleasure to have known him for 6 months
