Bargain Hunters & Gatherers.

Post by Jasin » Tue Oct 22, 2024 4:31 pm

I really enjoy my Hunter-Gatherer habit of finding great 'bargains'.
Nothing more enjoyable than hunting up and down the isles in Supermarkets or in Shops and gathering marked down 'bargains'.
For me, it comes from many many years where I have had no money, have been homeless and really had to lower my original standards (from an upbringing standpoint, before leaving the family nest).
These days, I'm very very comfortable financially. But the 'habit', that was born from necessity, is now an enjoyable hobby so to speak.
I don't consider myself a tight-arse, as I do spend a lot - where/when it is needed. Like flying overseas - I no longer suffer 'cattle-class' and prefer the business class of Emirates only, if possible.
But when it comes to 'basic living', I really don't see the point or 'value' of paying for that which shouldn't be as expensive as it is. Like many businesses after COVID-LOCKDOWN era, they now have the inflated prices as if to capitalise upon what they couldn't get during those few years of 2019-20.
I'm sorry, but I'm not 'buying into that'. Bloody $10 for a coffee. $9+ for a small/thin sized Pizza at a Supermarket. $35+ from a Pizza Shop for just a large, etc, etc. :nah

So I thought to start a Topic about any good bargains Members here have gained. Be it a steak in a Supermarket to a Used Car and more.
Example. I took a cage-trailer load of foam boxes (seafood) from the Restaurant to the tip. I took a usual stroll through the 'Dump Shop' and low and behold! A Recliner Chair: clean, no damage, easy to lift and carry and worked as it should. Asking the Tip Staff "How much?" - the price they asked for it was just $10 :!: :b ...into the trailer it went and it is now my TV / Dinner chair.

So who here has rebelled these past years since the end of the COVID-LOCKDOWN era, when INFLATION, SHRINKFLATION & all things more than they are really worth are gauging in?

So if anyone finds a 'Bargain' of any sorts. Put them in this Topic and share the triumphant vibe of beating the system.

I would like to appraise VICTORIA for getting rid of STAMP DUTY on 'used' houses, properties (as I understand it to be, correct me if I'm wrong) . An incredible miracle if ever there was one! Victoria has now become the BARGAIN STATE :!:

No way - where do you see that?

All land taxes have sky rocketed now.

From what I've heard, they're using the One Time only Stamp Duty to entice people to move back to Victoria after the Covid exodus.

Why should anyone pay Stamp Duty on any future house, after their first?
It's a Scam.

I like buying those discounted plastic veges and/or salad packs for a low price as they only really have another 'conservative' day or two use-by left in em before they start to turn.
I use them that night - mixed in with some diced Venison (from someone I know who has around 500 deer roaming in his neck of the woods) or any meat that can be cut and incorporated in with a tin of Chunky something extra ($2.50). All up, $10 or less a night's meal full of meat, greenery and anything else I want to add. It really does a 2 plate meal, but hey - I only eat big at dinner. Definitely no lunch for me and Brekkie is just a couple of eggs or some biscuits with a coffee.

Dirty Dan put us into about $240 billion in debt -
the stamp duty and other land taxes are there to pay the interest on his debt.
We got rail infrastructure out of it - removal of level rail / road crossings etc
but wow at what a price!
Unfortunately - tax on land sounds like communism -
under communism you can't own land and in Victoria you pay rent to live on your own land.
We already pay high rates and the next step will be land tax on your own home or Unit/ apartment -
when - I don't know?
You certainly have to pay land tax on property that you rent out or don't live in.

Lol. Makes the Aborigines sound like Commies.

It's nothing cemented and with writing. It's just stuff that I've heard from your neck of the woods and Victorians up my way.
Maybe just all talk.
Who knows.

We spent over 40 years fighting the communism of the Cold War
and then we adopted communist laws. :WTF

You're right in a way.

Look at the ALP.
Used to be for the Workers and Poor.
Now they call the Workers and Poor the 'stupid' (for not voting 'Yes') and wrong and now suck up to the Wealthy Elitists (as not all Wealthy people are 'Elitist' in their ways) instead. Albanese the Sydney Houso is chasing the Melbournian Rich-monders.

And Albo and his son get the chairman's lounge treatment at Qantas.
The wouldn't want to mix with the riff raff.

He's a bitter 'Houso' that wants his revenge by expecting to get $$$ as he now deserves.
Housos are scabs.
Boguns are the Battlers.
He's probably scabbed his way up the ladder to PM. Let alone asked McDonalds for another burger after he eats half of the one he says is yuk.
