Meeting Politicians You Don’t Like/Can’t Stand

Post by lisa jones » Fri Dec 01, 2023 9:46 am

Well...I had the unfortunate experience of meeting one rather recently whilst taking our golden retriever out for a walk. The person responsible for that was of course none other than my husband who INSISTED that we enter a certain cafe for a latte.

So there we were (golden retriever and I) sitting at our table waiting while hubby was at the counter attending to the latte issue (along with his obligatory toasted and buttered banana bread). I was (of course) checking my emails on my iPhone when all of a sudden ... someone started chatting to our furry child. I will admit I initially smiled because our golden retriever is a very lovable, well behaved and adorable “person”. Yes “person” <—- that’s how we regard him. He’s part of our family...a very important part in fact.

Well ... what happened next I’ll probably never EVER forget. It occurred to me that the voice I was hearing was somewhat familiar. Within seconds I realised why.

As I turned around...I froze in horror. Standing (and then kneeling) before me was a certain Australian politician. But it wasn’t just any ordinary Australian politician...it was the Prime Minister himself. For years this individual represented all that was worthy of utmost derision and ridicule. As far as I was concerned he personified and epitomised loathsome ineptitude. The fact that his face was an ever present visual prompt of the infamous bungling buffoon Captain Binghampton (of McHales Navy fame) did not help the current situation.

Within minutes however....the unthinkable occurred. Our Prime Minister spoke to me as though he had always known me. As an equal even. He spoke to our furry child as a person worthy of respect and regard. I realised that the person in front of me wasn’t a politician. He was just an ordinary Australian but one with a particular love for animals esp guide dogs (and yes we chatted a bit about that too).

My husband (eventually) returned to our table not realising who was kneeling in front of me and our furry child happily chatting away with us. Well once he sat down I naturally did the right thing and introduced my husband to the Prime Minister as though he was just an old friend.

Was my husband tense and on edge because he knew I was an ardent Conservative at heart? Of course he was!

Did we take photos of the occasion? Of course we did! Why? The event deserved to be remembered for it was the day we finally met the REAL PERSON behind the titled position. And I came away realising that we had a lot in common....much more than I would have expected and it proved to be an epiphany (of sorts) for me.

I’m not sure why ... but I do believe it had something to do with identifying as middle class (and all that it involves). The subliminal hints of a privileged upbringing can and do become alarmingly apparent in the course of casual conversation. So I was quite intrigued that our paths in life had crossed many times and in many ways because we had moved in similar social circles.

All that aside...our Prime Minister is a Bunnies supporter. Like we are. And he absolutely loves golden retrievers. Like we do.

And I thought he was very easy to talk to. Especially about properties and competent/proficient real estate investing.

Note : I’m happy to send said photos to the few trustworthy people of PA who I privately chat to. Via email.

Hi Lisa,
you have rubbed shoulders with royalty.
Everyone likes Golden Retrievers because they are the least likely dog to bite people.
I still think Albo could be a one term wonder.

Noooooo!!!

Our golden retriever rubbed shoulders with (Australia’s version of) royalty. He even licked the PM’s hand (this was AFTER lifting his paw to say hello/hi 5 lol).

Golden Retrievers exhibit uniquely helpful and endearing qualities and powers if only humans stopped ... to notice. Their mere presence effortlessly tears down sociopoliticoeconomic barriers. I find myself standing in awe and amazement at times because our wonderful God saw fit to create such majestic creatures to bless our lives, to serve in hospitals as therapy dogs for dying children and to be beloved loyal guides for the vulnerable and blind.

As regards Albo...he’s definitely the “safest” Labor candidate. For now.

Golden Retrievers and Labradors are the only dogs they allow in schools -
they are great with people and other animals.
They were bred to be like that.

Albo burned up most of his political capital with the Abbo Voice nonsense.
He bet on a losing horse and wanted to make legislation about it AFTER people voted.

Bobby.....Albo is actually a nice guy (probably too nice). He’s not PM material IMO. In fact he’s pretty much a soft touch like Biden. And just like Biden I’ve no doubt he’s been deliberately installed by others. For now.

He comes across as a nice guy because that's part of act -
to be liked by people so they'll vote for him.

I don't like what he's doing to Australia - e.g.
did he warn us that after Covid he would bring in 1 million more migrants?

Did we get a choice on that?
was it even discussed anywhere?

I can’t disagree with anything you’ve stated.

My vote looks for capability. Albo (and Labor for that matter) have none of that.

As regards honesty, transparency and fairness ... why only someone as naive as myself could even hope to find that in politics. On any level. It’s even prohibited on a little obscure insignificant forum like OzPol. Standing up FOR honesty, transparency and fairness is not allowed because it’s considered dangerous by those who have a lot to hide.

I consider all politicians as professional liars.
If they are talking it's most likely a lie or at the very least
a misinterpretation of the truth -
and can also contain omissions.

Lawyers are no different. In fact both politicians and lawyers are trained to master the art of professional lying and to perfect their skills in deception. It’s probably all about distorting the appearance of reality. Playing cruel mind games even. We the people are expected to accept our lot as the chosen victims of such wanton, evil, self appointed “gods”.

Hi Lisa,
I know that in any workplace I've been in -
there is no way I could get away with the type of answers politicians give -
especially those in question time.
example:
labor is asked about their record on some issue -
and instead they talk about the Liberal record -
they never answer the questions.

They are sneaky, dirty, lying scoundrels and they call themselves honourable.
