Capping household rents

Post by Aussie » Wed Mar 29, 2023 3:51 pm

Well, I know there is a rent capping scheme in the ACT, and it is now on the agenda in Qld.

I fully support it as the real estate industry and rapacious landlords have been screwing people for way too long.

They have proved their inability to self regulate, so I see no alternative other than for Government to step in.

Rent is a straight supply and demand issue. I don't support rent caps, i do support the government investing in low cost rental housing. The issue for me is, if i invest in a house and rent it, it is my business how much i rent it for. The government has no right to control the price, the market needs to.

Rent caps are masking the symptom that there is not enough low cost housing.
