Data harvesting and hacking

So many recent hacks and so much personal data harvested. Maybe there is old legislation requiring Institutions to retain data for a long period. If so, that needs to be revisited.

Institutions must also advise anyone dealing with them that their data might be hacked, and they ought to be forced to get specific confirmation from that person they accept the risk of hack, and ALSO.....data older than six months (or whatever relevant period) ought to be deleted by the Institution, or made bullet proof (if that is possible...maybe on the Cloud.)

Millions of customer records stolen in Latitude Financial data breach

Latitude Financial Services has today revealed the larger extent of their cyberattack two weeks ago with the number rising from hundreds of thousands to now millions of customer records stolen.
The company reports that their forensic review is ongoing but that they have identified 7.9 million Australian and New Zealand driver's licence numbers stolen.
Of these, 3.2 million were from the last ten years.
