.......... As you say, keeping the thing cool is important.
I have a "cooler master" fan base I put my computers on when using them.
Adds about 4 cm to the height, but I'm happy with that ...........
I have never heard of those
Seems to be some sort of generic unit I picked up at the computer store a few years back.
It's basically an elivated stand with mesh on top.
Two fans underneath the mesh and plugs into the USB port on my computer.

The internal computer fan goes off far less frequently when it's mounted on this unit.

I think it was $40.00.

I'd post a picture, but for some reason I just can't seem to post pictures on this forum.
No problems with other forums, just this one.

Hey.

Some moron tried to hack my computer today.

My antivirus blocked it immediately and put a warning up.
They sent me a cleaning app, which I ran, but there was nothing on the computer, blocked by their software.
Good stuff.

It's only the second time in the time I've had computers.

I would truely love to send a scud missile at the location where these hackers are.

For the last 3 refreshed I have gone with the Lenovo Thinkpad... solid device, only had to get the fan replaced on 1 once.

I don't buy antivirus anymore. I did my research and the Windows Defender free with windows does the job these days as well. Saves money and so far it protected me well.

I have a friend that worked at Micro$oft and all their employees us it only, good enough for them, considering they are always under attack, good enough for me.

I'm on my pad at the moment.
When I get back on my computer, I'll have a look and tell you.
It's not expensive, about $100.00 a year.
But I can contact them anytime 24/7 If I have an issue and tgey even help out if I have a problem.

They found out about the hard drive failure.
I had a warning tgat there were several viruses on my computer.
I cleaned them and did another scan.
They multiplied by hundreds.
I contacted the virus people, gave them access to my computer, while he was on the phone to me.
He immediately told me to backup everything I had onto a hard drive and get the computer back to the shop.
He said it wasn't a virus it was the start of a hard drive failure.
When I got the computer back to the shop, they couldn't even start it up.
I had a new hard drive installed under warranty, complete cascade of data failure or something.

If the virus detection hadn't picked up the gradual deletion of data from the hard drive failure, it would have crashed and I would have lost everything.
That's why I back up everything every week or month onto two separate terabyte hard drives.

That on it's own won me over.

I backup/sync all my files and everything important to the cloud these days. Don't worry about backups anymore.

Maybe because i am mainly doing small office type stuff and no heavy database work ...etc on my PC locally.

That is surprising.
Thanks, I will look into it.
Oh, our antivirus protects our phones too

I use SOPHOS, its probably one of the more expensive ones, but the service is excellent.

I use Trend Micro, have had it for a few years, seems good.
