Preparing your own meals

I really like own prepared meals. The simple stuff.

Rolled oats, nuked up, add some yoghurt and canned fruit salad. What a breakfast.

Cheese and a fruit platter. Might have some left over old ginger ale to go with it.

Simple, really nice, very healthy.

My father was brought up that the woman dies the cooking.
So when mum became an invalid, my father had to learn how to cook.
To be honest, he never really mastered it.
Basics he could manage, but nothing requiring any culinary skill.

When mum passed away, dad stopped even trying, preferring to go without than to cook.
He lived in Sydney, we lived over 100klm away, so inviting him to meals was problematic.

But my wife, being who she is, struck upon an idea.
She cooked every meal for one extra, this extra was packaged and frozen.
Once a fortnight, we would drive to Sydney and drop off the meals.
Bringing home the empty containers.
Dad started putting on weight and looking better, so we gradually introduced him to frozen dinners.
He still preferred my wifes cooking, but at least we could cut back to once every three weeks rather than fortnightly.

His favorite...lamb shank in a tomato sauce with baked vegitables.
But he also loved the various stews and soups.

Im a stew and soup lover myself, so I taught myself to cook all the soups and stews i like.
I can, and do, cook often.
I find it relaxing and enjoyable, we often fight over who is cooking.
My scones are nearly perfect, took me years to get them that way, really pisses of the mother in law, she has never perfected them.

But tge wife still makes the best steak and kidney as well as the best lambs fry and bacon. I have not mastered them yet.
I have a dream

My hope is that in time, Islam will be nothing but a bad dream

From memory ......
Turn the oven on.
Get the butter and all ingredients to room temp before starting.
Have the Oven overly hot if anything.
Mix it quickly without rushing. Do not over blend it.
Hot oven from before the moment you put the scones in there.
Do not open the oven door to 'check'. Keep them cooking hot.

Mine are "mostly" light, fluffy and stay that way for two days.

Occasionally, something goes wrong and they are not.

The best flour is important, cheap flour just dont cut it.

Just microwaved some salmon. 2/3 rds of a mid section, cut into 3 equal sized portions.
Bought it yesterday so it is due to be cooked now or ........ throw away later on. Am not hungry now.
Squeezed some lime onto it, sprinkled some mixed herbs onto it, a few drops of olive oil.
Nuked it for 3 mins in microwave glass container. Looks/smell pretty ok.
It'll be lunch tomorrow. It's got to be good.

I mean, it is salmon, lime and herbs !

I prefer my salmon baked with some basic herbs and spices.
But careful not to over bake it, when the white starts coming out its done,

Some rice and a few raw veggies, nice meal.
