Re: Computer cleanups
I was put onto ccleaner by our IT guy several years ago.
The first time I used it, it took ages to clean out all the crap.
Now its pretty quick.
I do a monthly update, cclean, virus scan and defrag.
I keep as much stuff off my computer as possible, with a couple of hard drives for storage to keep it clear.
But i have a HP, an absolute dog of a computer.
Previously, when I was working, I had mostly Dell.
They never gave me any problems and travelled the world with me.
This HP is a dog, slow to start up, had the hard drive replaced under warranty 4 months into ownership, then the power board died 6 months into ownership.
The last problem was lines on the screen, the bloody monitor died less than 12 months into ownership.
I took out an extended warranty, but that runs out next year.
So when it dies next, it will probably be the last time.
Im going for any manufacturer than HP next time.

Re: Computer cleanups
I replace my laptop every 3 to 4 years.
With the modern SSD discs I have not issues and no need to defrag anymore.
As to registry problems, I don't install and uninstall to much crap and freeware. So I have not had to do this for 10 years and when I did, I did it manually.

This one is an Asus
Had some strange problems years ago, has been good overall.
Had a few Dells in the past, they were good. Thought they had declined in longevity and quality.
I run my laptops till they pretty much stop

Re: Computer cleanups
I expect 5 to 7 years from a laptop. Excessive, I know, but Im a self funded retiree so money isnt what it once was.
HP have been as helpful as tits on a bull.
Useless feedback from them.
If it weren't for the local computer wizz, I would have scrapped this thing 12 months ago.
Ill be heading back to the DEll next.
I prefer gaming computers so they aint cheap, but the graphics are always superior,

Same as my phone.
I research on what manufacturer has the best longevity/reliability/support.
I don't want the 'fastest', give me the 'Toyota Landcruiser' of the laptops.
Overheating kills electronics. I use mine on a 'stable' so there is a hard surface under it ans the fan underneath does not get blocked.
Gluing higher feet on them underneath so there is at least 5 mm clear under the laptop improves the cooling
I buy the phone that is 2 models behind the recent model.
There you go - Microsoft, lenono or samsung !!!!

I like this recommendation
............. Hey, im a Laptop Retailer based in Chandigarh. I wont waste much time and jump to the conclusion.
Buy a Commercial laptop of any brand. For example. (Suggested Laptops).
Lenovo thinkpad T series,
Dell Latitude 3000/5000 series
HP probook and G7 series
They have the most superior built quality
And 8–10 hrs of bettery life, and the best motherboards .
Hope its helpful to you .............

In hindsight, I have always bought the better models of the brand I decided on. The better screen and battery.
It is better to buy a dearer model 'Lenovo' than a cheaper level 'Dell'. Or vice versa.

I have a lenovo I bought I think 10 years ago.
I use it for some of my old programs that windows 10 wont run.
I keep it off line so it never gets "updates" that would ruin its functionality for the programs I use.
You would think windows would be smart enough to allow older programs to run on their latest platforms.
But they are very mercenary and want you to continually buy new ones, some of which are less functional or riddled with problems.
Still works perfectly, if a little slow.
I was working at the time and bought it for my own personal computer.
Its a gaming computer and has all the best upgrades (for the time)
I used to get around 8 hours run time, but now its only about 4 hours, but after 10 years, Im happy with that.
As you say, keeping the thing cool is important.
I have a "cooler master" fan base I put my computers on when using them.
Adds about 4 cm to the height, but I'm happy with that
The DEll latitude will most probably be my next, I have had a couple of them now and have been very happy with them (work computers).
Although, the old Lenovo has proven a mighty beast.
When my investments pay out later this year, Ill see if I have enough to get what I want.
Im a bit concerned that the profits may be less this year than last which were excellent
I have a dream

A world that has never known the horrors of the cult of death.

I've had a dell latitude before. That was good.
My Asus is running well, so if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
Might try a Lenovo next time
